The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has called on Directors of Information in Ministries, Departments and Agencies to mentor the younger ones to ensure effective continuity.

Idris gave the charge at the stakeholders meeting for Resident Information Officers (RIOs) on Thursday in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was organised by the Information Ministry for RIOs from GL 14 to GL17.

He said the senior officers and directors need to worry about the information ecosystem,  because it is a career that they would leave in some years to come.

“There is a need for the directors to uphold the ethics, and must continue to mentor the younger ones,  otherwise, they will not like what they will see in the next few years.

“You know, the young people should be trained. You have to carry this part and pass it over, after all, the other ones pass this portion. So you have the responsibility to also pass it on.

“On privileges,  let them know if something is being provided. Don’t deny them their privileges and what is due to them. It is not only the directors that have attachment. Provision should be made for the junior ones too,” Idris said.

He further explained that training and capacity building has become a necessity, adding that the stakeholder meeting will be regular hence forth.
