The Police Command in Ondo State on Thursday says it has intercepted an armed suspect, one Raheem Rasaq, and recovered two single barrel rifles, in the state.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s Spokesperson, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Akure.
saying that the measure had continued to yield significant results in crime prevention and detection across the state.
Jimoh explained that the armed suspect, Rasaq, was intercepted by Ore divisional headquarters during a routine surveillance patrol at redemption bridge at Ore.
The spokesperson said during the operation, the suspect was thoroughly searched, leading to the recovery of two locally made single-barrel rifles, two live cartridges and one expended cartridge.
“Following his apprehension, the suspect made useful confessional statements which have provided valuable leads and are significantly aiding ongoing investigations.
“The revelations have assisted the command in identifying other members of the criminal gang believed to be responsible for crimes and criminalities, particularly from border communities.
“Efforts have since been intensified to apprehend other suspects, while those found culpable will be made to face the full weight of the law.
” Upon the conclusion of investigations, the arrested suspect will be charged to court accordingly,” he said.
The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for their prompt and professional conduct.
According to him, the CP says the interception underscored the importance of intelligence-led surveillance operations in disrupting criminal activities and preventing the proliferation of illicit arms.
He further reassured residents of the state that the command remained resolute and was leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across Ondo State.
“Accordingly, the Police Command in Ondo State calls on members of the public to continue to cooperate with operatives during stop-and-search operations
“They should promptly report any suspicious movement, object, or person to the nearest police station or security post, as public cooperation remains central to effective policing,” he said.
