A 29-year-old man, Taiwo Bankole, on Wednesday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly assaulting one Nnamdi Udeigwe with a broken bottle.

Bankole, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a case of assault and damage in which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 6, at about 12.30 p.m.at Ayetoro Street, Iyana-Iyesi, Ota.

Adaraloye alleged that the defendant stabbed Udeigwe, the complainant, with a broken bottle when a fight broke out between them, thereby inflicting a serious injury on him.

He alleged that Bankole also stabbed one Nnaji Sunday, the elder brother of the complainant, on his shoulder, why he was trying to separate the fight.

He further alleged that the defendant damaged one Iphone 14 Pro max screen, valued at N700, 000.

The prosecutor said that offences contravened Sections 252 and 335 of the Criminal Code of Ogun, 2006.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O.Fadairo, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Fadairo said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

The case was adjourned until Dec.3, for judgment.
