The Super Veterans Sport and Social Club of Zaria (SVSSCZ) is proudly commemorating its fifth year of dedicated service, celebrating a half-decade of creating tangible social impacts and championing youth empowerment for positive change.
The announcement was made via a statement released to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos. The SVSSCZ is described as a non-partisan collective of distinguished men aged 40 and above, representing a diverse array of economic sectors.
Founded in 2020 out of a shared mission to address rising concerns over youth restlessness and a lack of productive engagement, the club has since become a pivotal force in the Zaria community. Through its consistent efforts, the SVSCZ has successfully earned the trust and respect of both community and religious leaders, solidifying its reputation as a reliable catalyst for positive transformation.
The Chairman of SVSCZ, Mr Paul Osazua, said the club is proud to mark its fifth anniversary of active community engagement and youth empowerment.
Osazua noted that the club over the years had donated books and writing materials to local schools and extended vital support to orphanage homes across Zaria.
“These acts of service reflect the club’s commitment to fostering inclusive development and education.
“One of the club’s flagship initiatives, the annual Five-Aside Football Tournament has grown remarkably since its launch two years ago.
“The 2025 edition witnessed a surge in participation, with over 30 grassroots clubs registering at a modest fee of ₦15,000, compared to just 13 clubs in the previous year.
“The competition concluded in high spirits, with the winning team taking home a cash prize of ₦150,000, along with other valuable incentives,” he said.
He said the first runner-up also rewarded with cash prizes, while individual players got customised items for the ‘Man of the Match’ and the ‘Best Player’ of the tournament to encourage continued engagement and excellence.
Osazua also expressed deep appreciation to the Zaria Emirate Council, various individuals, and institutions that have offered moral, financial, and logistical support to the club’s causes.
He appealed to corporate organisations to align their corporate social responsibility efforts with the club’s vision to consolidate and expand on the achievements recorded so far.
“As the club celebrates five impactful years, it is not only reflecting on its journey but also laying bold plans for the future,” Osazua.
He said the 2025 edition of the Five-aside Football Tournament was won by Samaru Selected FC, while Alpha Football Academy secured the second prize.
A member of the club, Prof. Tunji Iyiola-Tunji, reiterated the group’s unwavering commitment to promoting peaceful co-existence and positioning the youth in profitable and meaningful activities.
“We believe that peace and progress can only thrive when our youth are empowered and meaningfully engaged.
“Our goal is to build a community where no young person is left behind, and where everyone contributes to the collective growth of Zaria and Nigeria at large,” he stated.
