Popular filmmaker, Omoni Oboli, has again reflected on her marriage.

She married young and cannot stop wondering why – and why he married her man, Nnamdi Oboli, ‘so quickly’.

Theirs is, however, one of the positive stories in Nollywood marriages.

Twenty-four years after, the union is waxing stronger.

Reflecting on the journey in an interview with  Chude Jideonwo, Oboli said: “Staying married for over two decades… First things first, you have to decide. It’s a decision. From day one, we decided that divorce was not an option—even before we got married.

“There’s almost nothing someone can do that you can’t forgive, if you want to forgive. We all have to realise that we’re all sinners,” she noted.

Omoni candidly shared that the first year of their marriage was extremely turbulent, largely because they had a very short courtship—her husband proposed just two weeks after they met, and they got married four months later.

“I was young. Till today, I don’t know how I agreed to marry him so quickly. But I know I fell in love with the way my husband loved me,” she said.

Reflecting further, she explained that the early chaos in their marriage didn’t break them because they had already made a firm decision to stay committed, regardless of the challenges.

Omoni also tied her personal story to her new film sequel, “After a Night in July,” which she says holds deep personal significance, as it mirrors parts of her own marital journey.
