The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has paid tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a disciplined and principled leader who left a lasting mark on the nation.
In a condolence message released on Monday through NCS spokesman Abdullahi Maiwada, Adeniyi praised Buhari’s legacy of integrity and commitment to national service, which he said served as a guiding example for institutions like the Customs Service.
The former president passed away in London on Sunday at approximately 4:30 p.m., according to reports.
“His legacy as a disciplined leader and patriot who contributed immensely to national development, including key reforms in the NCS, will be remembered,” he said.
He prayed for Buhari’s peaceful repose and for strength for his family and the nation to bear the great loss.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has ordered national flags be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect for the departed leader.
Former President Buhari was twice elected Nigeria’s President, in 2015 and 2019.
He also served as Nigeria’s military Head of State between January 1984 and August 1985.
