Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigeria Army Sokoto, has tasked officers and soldiers on teamwork and coordination during military operations and other activities in their formations.
Mutkut made the call at the closing ceremony of inter brigade combat proficiency competition of the division, on Friday in Sokoto.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the participants were drawn from 1 Brigade Gusau, 17 Brigade Katsina and 8 Division Garrison Sokoto.
The GOC, represented by 8 Div. Garrison Commander, Brig. Gen. Alex Tawasimi, said that the competition was to promote teamwork, sportsmanship and the battle readiness of the personnel.
“This collective training is very important as it requires physical and mental fitness to be able to achieve desired objectives in the theatres of operation.
”Nigeria is currently bedeviled by myriad of security challenges. These challenges include insurgency, kidnapping, militancy, armed robbery among others.
He commended the general performance of all the participating formations, noting that the output showed their level of interest in the training.
”I have no doubt that the lessons learnt would be put into practice in all your assigned duties at your various formations.
”It is also hoped that it will enhance the spirit of sportsmanship, cooperation and team work amongst the troops,” he added.
The GOC appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja for approving the competition, and army authorities and sister agencies for the support and cooperation, which ensured the successful completion of the exercise.
According to him, the exercise is in line with COAS philosophy to transform the Nigerian Army into a well trained, equipped and highly motivated force, working in a joint environment to secure the nation.
NAN reports that awards were presented to best performing individuals and formations.
The 1 Brigade Gusau emerged first, followed by 17 Brigade Katsina, and 8 Division Garrison Sokoto which trailed the medals chart.
