Coach Abdul Maikaba of Rangers International of Enugu says the club must do all it can to win its host, Akwa United, at the ongoing Nigeria league to keep hope of winning the trophy.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, Rangers FC will on Sunday in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match day 18 play the league defending champions, Akwa United in Uyo.

Stating this to newsmen in Enugu on Friday, Maikaba said that Rangers FC inspiration at the ongoing NPFL was to win the trophy or at worst pick a continental ticket.

“If we cannot win the trophy, a continental ticket should not elude us, and to achieve this, we must beat good teams like Akwa Utd at their home ground.

“Whether we like it or not, if our inspiration is to win the league or go to the continent, we have to beat teams like’ Akwa United at away.

“Once we cannot do that, then we cannot get to our destination. Our mission is to go all out to make sure we get the three points at stake in Uyo.

“Akwa is following us at the back, a win against us will take them ahead and that is what we must avoid,” he said.

Maikaba said his team would do all in its capacity to avoid losing against their host to consolidate the club current fourth position on the league table.

The coach described Akwa United as his home, saying the fans always gave him a rosy reception any time he visited.

“I feel at home whenever I visit Uyo because, the fans appreciate my contributions to their team years ago.

“Now that I am with Rangers International, I know that nothing will change, and with respect to my job, we are going to Uyo for a win,” he asserted.

The coach expressed worries over long time Injury his players were undergoing, saying that their service were crucial for the club now the league was at its peak.

“Actually, we are disturbed with the series of injuries our players are nursing; it is taking too long for them to recover and be back to the team.

“We are missing Important players like, Ugochukwu Ugwuoke, Ossy Martins to mention but few and we need them as soon as possible.
