The Gombe state Government has resumed the payment of the 2015 outstanding gratuity to about 700 retired civil servants in the state, following the release of N755 million.
Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State on Friday in Gombe at the commencement of the payment said his administration was committed to upsetting backlog of gratuities inherited by his administration.
Yahaya represented by his deputy, Dr Manassah Jatau, said his administration was committed to the wellbeing and welfare of civil servants as well as the retirees.
He called on retirees in the state to remain calm as the state government under his leadership would sustain the payment of the benefits of those who had served the state in various capacities.
The governor said in spite of inheriting huge amount of liabilities of gratuity; his administration would continue to work out modalities within available resources to see that their benefits are paid as and when due.
Mr Muhammad Buba, Chairman of the committee set up by the state government to verify and ascertain the correctness of outstanding gratuities said the payment was to complete the 2015 outstanding.

Buba said it was the final 50 per cent of the 2015 gratuity amounting to N755 million that was being paid and that the sum was meant to be paid to about 700 retirees.
Buba stated that the state government was committed to the payment of gratuities and hence, it embarked on batch-by-batch payment to clear the backlogs.
According to the chairman, it is only the state retirees that are currently benefiting from the payment.
He added that Gov. Yahaya was engaging with local government chairmen to ensure that local government retirees also benefit from the same gesture.
Phenomenal reports that the state government in March released N775 million for the payment of retirees’ benefits.
