An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday ordered that a 31-year-old businessman, Lekan Thompson, be remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.
Magistrate Mrs A.O Layinka, who did not take Thompson’s plea, ordered that he should be remanded in Kirikri Correctional Centre.
Layinka, however, directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
She adjourned the case until Dec. 6 for DPP’s advice.
The police charged Thompson, who resides in Ikeja, Lagos State, with a two-count charge of threat to life and defilement.
He said Thompson committed the offence in August at his residence.
The Prosecution Counsel Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the defendant had canal knowledge of the teenager.
He said that Thompson also threatened to kill her if she tells anybody.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 56(b) and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
