A housewife, Ummulkhairi Lawal, on Thursday dragged her former husband, Isa Haruna to a Sharia Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna over unpaid dowry.
She told the court that Haruna was supposed to pay N120,000 as dowry for her hand in marriage.
”He divorced me on March 27 and is to offset the dowry. I beg the court to order him to pay me” she said.
However, Haruna, told the court:”I am a commercial tricyclist. I am pleading with the court to give me four months to look for the money to pay her”.
The Judge Malam Yakubu Abdullahi said:” in Islam, the dowry of a woman is supposed to be paid without delay, for fairness and in order not to inconvenience her”.
In his ruling, the judge ordered Haruna to pay Lawal the amount agreed on as dowry.
He gave Haruna until Oct. 5 to offset the debt.
