Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has spoken on his alleged ambition to run for presidency in 2023.
Before now, only to prominent South-West politicians had been linked to the ambition – Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.
The ambition has caused some mixed blood between the camps of the latter two.
In recend days, however, posters showing Akeredolu announcing the intention has surfaced online.
Reacting to this, Akeredolu said his mind was not on such a project.
He thus cautioned the promoters not to distract him from delivering electoral promises to the people.
His position is contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde.
It read: “Undoubtedly, the development is no less a needless distraction. Although Mr. Governor’s constitutional right, qualification and competence are not in doubt, this particular campaign does not represent in any manner, his immediate political disposition.
“For emphasis, Governor Akeredolu, who has just been re-elected, wishes to be left alone to focus on deepening good governance in Ondo State.
“He, therefore, advises all involved to be guided, just as he holds the view that only God can put men in position.”
