Weeks after Benue State Governor, Smuel Ortom, escaped an assassination attempt, some gunmen have shot one of his aides.
The aide, who was the Senior Special Assistant to Benue Governor Samuel Ortom on Security, AIG Christopher Dega (Rtd) in Jos, Plateau State Capital, was said to have been repeatedly shot in the chest, after which he gave up the ghost.
There have been repeated violent attacks on Benue State, with the government and the people saying the attackers were herdsmen.
Ortom is the first to ban open grazing, a decision that has heightened the tension between stakeholders in the cattle business and the state.
AIG Dega had a brilliant career in the Nigerian Police Force and was twice Commissioner of Police in Borno and Edo States.
He hailed from Katsina-Ala local government area in Benue state .
