1. He was born in Lagos on June 2, 1963.
2. He started his career with Coopers & Lybrand, a firm of chartered accountants, in 1986.
3. He later worked at Victory Merchant Bank 23 years ago.
4. His father was a chemical engineer and mother, a nurse.
5. Gbenga has two older siblings, Tosin and Funmi.
6. He attended St Gregory’s College, Lagos for his secondary school certificate.
7. He studied Political Science at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife
8. Gbenga worked for one year (2004 – 2005) with FBN Merchant Bank as general manager, corporate/commercial banking.
9. He had responsibility for credit, relationship management, and business development.
10. Gbenga joined FirstBank from FBN Merchant Bank Limited as group head, national corporates in 2006.
11. He held different offices in the bank before becoming executive vice president, retail south in 2010.
12. On Monday 4 January 2016, Gbenga assumed office as deputy managing director, First Bank of Nigeria Limited.
13. He is a keen golfer and active lawn tennis player.
14. His wife, Vivien Shobo, is the former CEO of Nigeria’s leading rating agency, Agusto & Co.
15. They have two sons.
