The Interfaith Mediation Centre on Tuesday called on the Kaduna State Government to enlighten students on security tips to protect themselves from kidnappers and other threats.
The call is contained in a communiqué signed by Co-Executive Directors of the centre, Pastor James Wuye and Iman Mohammed Ashafa, at the end of a “Forum on Peace Journalism’’, in Kaduna on Tuesday.
The communiqué also stressed the need for parents, community and religious leaders to work with the government in combating kidnapping and banditry in the state.
It also urged the state government to recognise and engage the civilian joint task force and equip them to be able to assist security agencies in tackling those challenges.
The communiqué noted that unemployment was one of the major causes of insecurity in the country and called for empowerment of the youths.
It also noted the increasing number of IDPs across the country, urging government at various levels to provide humanitarian assistance to them, especially now that the rainy season was fast approaching.
The communiqué urged the Kaduna state government to be proactive in providing security to both public and private schools, to protect students and teachers. (NAN)
