The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly stealing four goats in Maigatari Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The NSCDC spokesman in the state, SC Adamun Shehu, confirmed the arrest in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Monday.
Shehu said the suspects, aged 33 and 23, were arrested in Suletankarkar Market, Suletankarkar LGA, while attempting to sell the stolen goats.
He explained that upon their arrest, people living in the area alleged that the suspects had been terrorising the community and the neighborhoods by stealing livestock.
“They were arrested after allegedly conspiring and stealing four goats belonging to one Ali Muhammad of Kundu village in Kaugama LGA.
“The suspects were arrested while trying to sell the stolen goats at Suletankarkar market on March 24.
“One of the suspects confessed to have stolen the goats while grazing close to his herd of goats on March 18, and kept them in his house.
“He later sought the assistance of the other suspect on how to dispose the goats,” he said.
The spokesman said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.
He said the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Alhaji Garba Muhammad, urged the general public, particularly the youth, to seek legitimate and meaningful ways of living rather than resorting to crime.
