Celebrated filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has responded to an allegation by a former student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, who claimed the story of his new wave-making film, ‘Citation’, is heras.
The lady Utitofon Ekanem (then Hanson as a student) claimed she was the student whose story the movie dramatises.
According to her, she was sexually harassed by a dismissed lecturer of the institution, Professor (then) Sunday Akindele, adding that her case got to the Senate as that of Afolayan’s heroine, played by Temi Otedola, does.
She also claimed that most of the other things that happen in the movie happened to her.
Ekanem then added that she once approached Afolayan and told him of her intention to shoot the movie.
All of these are contained in a report by ‘The Punch’, which was approached by the lady.
Reacting, however, Afolayan denied ever meeting her, asking her to go to court if she was shure she had a case.
He was quoted as saying:
Afolayan said, “My office told me about the letter and I told them to ignore it. First of all, I have never heard her name before. Secondly, I didn’t write the script. If you see all the reports from ‘Citation’ the discussion on the movie started two years ago when Ford Foundation got involved. It was Tunde Babalola that wrote the script. I don’t know her. And she says she is going to court so let her go ahead. I am really not concerned.”
