The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday warned commercial motorists, motorcyclists and other road users in Kebbi against over-speeding and overloading of goods and passengers.
Mr Abayomi Asaniyan, the Sector Commander of FRSC, Kebbi State, gave the advice in Kalgo Local Government Area of the state during a road safety awareness rally.
Asaniyan said that the rally was part of the corps’ initiatives to review its road accident preventive measures toward reducing traffic accident-related deaths.
“This is part of our aggressive public awareness campaign to motorists, especially commercial drivers in motor parks to sensitise them on preventive measures against road-related accidents.
“This is to ensure a safer traffic environment as well as to reduce road crashes to the barest minimum in the state,’’ he said.
The sector commander said that the motorists were sensitised to the dangers of over-speeding, overloading, use of expired tires, making calls while driving, and driving without the safety belt on.
“These are common traffic violations by motorists, especially during the festive periods.
“These common traffic violations can cause injuries or loss of lives,’’ he said.
The FRSC commander urged motorists to learn to do the right thing without having to be compelled by traffic officials.
