The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has constituted a National Election Mobilisation Committee to sensitise and mobilise students for active participation in the 2027 General Elections.
NANS President, Akinteye Afeez, announced the committee’s formation at the 91st sitting of the NANS National Senate held at Kaduna State University.
Afeez said students represented a significant voting bloc and that informed participation in elections was essential to strengthening democracy.
He said the committee would coordinate student sensitisation, mobilisation and monitoring of election-related activities across the six geopolitical zones, with a target of facilitating the participation of at least 10 million students in the 2027 elections.
Afeez appointed himself as Director-General of the committee, while NANS Senate President, Igbabuchi Onya, will serve as Deputy Director. Olusola Oladoja was appointed National Coordinator, Gambo Abubakar, National Deputy Coordinator, and Charles Obina Ebube, National Publicity Relations Officer.
Agbabiaka Ahmed and Ibrahim Babalolo were appointed chairmen of the South and North Advisory Committees respectively.
The committee has representatives across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Afeez directed members to begin immediate sensitisation, mobilisation and monitoring across campuses and work with student unions and other stakeholders.
He also directed political support groups and election-related organisations seeking to engage students in political activities to liaise with the committee for proper coordination, notification and monitoring.
