The Police Command in Osun has arrested six suspects over alleged vandalism and theft of electricity infrastructure in Ikirun.
The suspects are Onabamiji Emmanuel, 55; Bolaji Odusanya, 51; Alimi Akeem, 36; Balogun Kehinde; Oyewo Hammed, 31; and Oladosu Hammed, 22.
The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo.
Ojelabi said the arrests followed reports of persistent vandalism, theft of cable wires and other electrical assets in Ikirun and its environs, which had plunged the town into darkness.
He said police operatives visited the scene and found the six suspects allegedly cutting wires from a high-tension pole.
According to him, the suspects were carrying out the act with a cutting machine powered by a generating set.
Ojelabi alleged that the suspects were members of a syndicate responsible for the vandalism and theft of electricity infrastructure in Ikirun and neighbouring communities.
He added that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
Ojelabi urged members of the public to support the police with timely and credible information that would assist in preventing and combating crime across the state.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to deploying intelligence and operational resources to detect and apprehend criminals.
