Mauricio Pochettino has delivered a brutal assessment of Manchester City’s ongoing financial charges case, questioning the integrity of the Premier League’s financial controls and arguing that no sanction can ever fix the damage caused.
Speaking in an interview with Foot Mercato, Pochettino did not hold back when discussing the fallout surrounding the 114 alleged rule breaches.
He said:
“No type of punishment will make it possible to repair what was done. Whatever punishment, it’s impossible to turn back time. It’s done a lot of damage—at the end of the day, many clubs followed the rules and some didn’t.”
“If it’s true that they broke 114 rules, we have lived through a period of deceit. We went through something where sporting fairness didn’t exist, so how do you repair everything that was damaged because of that?”
“If they are guilty, the Premier League’s controls are severely damaged. It is legitimate to question the controls that allowed such breaches to happen, and that is what astonishes me most.”
