Troops of the 8 Division Garrison of the Nigerian Army have repelled a bandit attack and prevented the rustling of livestock in Asarara village, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
A security source said the incident occurred on Wednesday when armed bandits invaded the community to kidnap residents and steal livestock.
According to the source, the troops engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to flee with some reportedly sustaining gunshot injuries.
The source, who spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to speak to the media, said the bandits retreated towards the Gwangi riverside community.
He commended residents for providing timely information that aided the military’s response, noting that the swift intervention of the troops prevented casualties and protected lives and property.
The source urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with credible information to strengthen security in farming communities.
