The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa Branch, says it will not suspend its ongoing strike until all its demands are fully implemented.
The ASUU Chairman, Dr Oluwatoyin Ogunbamike, stated this on Wednesday in Okitipupa.
OAUSTECH ASUU began an indefinite strike on Aug. 12 over the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government–ASUU agreement.
The union’s position followed Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s approval of a 60 per cent increase in monthly subvention to tertiary institutions in the state and the implementation of the agreement from August.
Ogunbamike acknowledged the governor’s approvals but said the union was dissatisfied with the proposed implementation date.
He said the agreement stipulated that implementation should take effect from Jan. 1, 2026, rather than August.
“We remain on strike, and nothing will compel us to suspend the industrial action until our legitimate demands are fully met,” Ogunbamike said.
He criticised the state government’s handling of educational development and called for greater attention to the welfare of academics and funding of tertiary institutions.
