Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche has been ruled out for the entire 2026/27 season after suffering a severe knee injury in pre-season.
The 23-year-old Nigerian was stretchered off during Getafe’s friendly match against AS Monaco after a dangerous tackle from Christian Mawissa, who received a straight red card.
Initial tests suggested a bad kneecap bruise, but follow-up MRI scans revealed multiple ligament and meniscus tears in his right knee.
Uche will undergo surgery in the coming days and is set to miss the full La Liga campaign, as well as upcoming AFCON qualifiers for Nigeria.
The injury comes right as he returned to Getafe to reboot his season after spending last year on loan at Crystal Palace.
A massive setback for both Getafe and Nigeria, Uche now faces a long road to recovery following surgery.
