FAMILY ANNOUNCES THE PASSING OF CHIEF ALABI OGUNDEPO

The family of Chief Alabi Ogundepo, the distinguished Saki-born poet, writer, cultural enthusiast and respected community figure, announces with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss his passing.
Chief Alabi Ogundepo departed this life on 24th AUGUST at the age of 84
Born in Saki, Oyo State, Chief Alabi Ogundepo was a remarkable literary voice whose poetry and writings reflected his deep appreciation of Yoruba culture, tradition, language, history and the human experience. Through his creative works and public engagements, he contributed significantly to the preservation and promotion of the rich cultural heritage of his people.
Beyond his literary accomplishments, Chief Alabi Ogundepo was a man of dignity, wisdom and compassion. He touched the lives of many through his counsel, friendship, intellectual contributions and commitment to the development of his community. His presence commanded respect, while his words often inspired reflection and appreciation of our shared heritage.
The family is deeply grateful to the many individuals, institutions, traditional leaders, literary communities, friends and well-wishers who have reached out to express their condolences and support at this difficult time.
While the family mourns the passing of a beloved father, husband, grandfather, relative and friend, we are also comforted by the enduring legacy he leaves behind through his writings, relationships, values and contributions to society.
Funeral arrangements and other details will be announced by the family in due course. The family kindly requests privacy and prayers as we come to terms with this irreparable loss.
Chief Alabi Ogundepo may have departed this world, but his voice, his poetry and the memories he created will continue to live on.
