A woman, Grace Madaki, was on Friday arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, over an alleged criminal breach of trust involving chickens valued at N845,000.

Madaki, a resident of Angwa Sarki, Orozo, is facing charges of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecution counsel, Mr Ben Adah, told the court that the complainant, Mrs Kusiyyah Bello, reported the matter at the Mararaba Police Station on Nov. 10, 2025.

Adah said the defendant approached the complainant for the supply of chickens.

He said Bello supplied 369.2 kilogrammes of chicken valued at N1.545 million to the defendant.

According to him, the defendant paid N700,000 but allegedly diverted the outstanding balance of N845,000 to her personal use.

The prosecutor told the court that all efforts by the complainant to recover the money proved abortive.

He said the offences contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Joy Faruk, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Faruk ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She adjourned the case until Aug. 4 for hearing or report of settlement.
