An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State has remanded a 33-year-old man, Temitoye Ganiyu, in a correctional centre over the alleged assault of two police officers.
Ganiyu, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of assault, malicious damage and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences at the Ota Divisional Police Headquarters.
Adaraloye alleged that Ganiyu assaulted ASP Badejo Taofeek by dragging him on the floor and tearing his uniform while the officer was performing his official duties.
He further alleged that the defendant assaulted another police officer, Florence Adedapo, in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.
The prosecutor also told the court that Ganiyu maliciously damaged a Samsung A07 Android phone valued at N210,000.
The Magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the case until Aug. 10 for further hearing.
