The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the singer recently announced via his X (formerly Twitter) account that he would no longer mark his birthday on November 18, opting instead for November 30.
According to the solo artist, the change means he will no longer celebrate his birthday on the same day as his twin brother, Paul Okoye, amid their ongoing rift.
In his post, he wrote:
“Dear Family, Friends, and Fans, I’m making it official. November 18th is no longer my birthday celebration date. Please note that I will not be accepting any messages or gifts on that day. My birthday will now be celebrated on November 30th. This is a personal decision, and I truly appreciate your understanding. Thank you all.”
The announcement has sparked mixed reactions on social media, particularly among fans of P-Square, many of whom are still hoping for reconciliation between the brothers.
A user, @Djouno, questioned the move, saying it was unrealistic to change one’s birth date and describing the decision as childish. Others, like Instagram user @tjay_africa, expressed support, while @donmention_ wished him an early happy birthday for November 30.
Some fans reacted with surprise and criticism. @ritaberry_desserts wrote that it was unusual to see a twin change their birth date, while another user, @Anu, described the situation as an extreme case of sibling rivalry. Comments from others ranged from humorous to skeptical, with some even suggesting legal proof would be needed for such a change.
Despite the backlash, a few supporters maintained that fans would likely continue celebrating him on November 18 regardless of his decision.
P-Square, once one of Africa’s most successful music duos, dominated the music scene in the 2000s and early 2010s with hit songs like Beautiful Onyinye, Personally, Bank Alert, Chop My Money, Do Me, and Alingo.
The group first split in 2017, leading to a five-year separation before reuniting in November 2021. However, the reunion was short-lived, as they parted ways again in 2024 following renewed disagreements involving their older brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, over alleged financial mismanagement.
