The Police Command in Lagos State has commenced an investigation into allegations that a doctor at a hospital concealed one of a set of twins after delivery.
The command confirmed the development in a post shared on its X handle, @LagosPoliceNG, on Wednesday.
It stated that the police were aware of a viral video circulating on social media regarding the incident.
According to the command, the matter is currently under investigation.
“Relevant professional bodies and associations have been contacted and are working in synergy with the police to unravel the circumstances surrounding the case.
“The area commander, Area M, is personally overseeing the investigation, and the outcome will be made public in due course,” it stated.
The command urged members of the public to remain calm, assuring that the situation was under control.
The development followed a viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday by user @AsakyGRM.
In the video, a woman held a newborn while confronting a doctor and demanding the whereabouts of her second baby, raising concerns over possible attempted trafficking before the situation was uncovered.
The woman alleged that after several medical scans confirmed she was carrying twins, only one baby was presented to her after delivery.
“Produce my second baby. This is not good enough. I did not come to this hospital to be robbed of my baby,” she was heard screaming in the video.
According to the video, the incident occurred at a hospital in the Abaranje area of Ikotun in the state, where the woman gave birth.
