The All Progressives Congress (APC), Kebbi chapter has said the ruling party would eventually benefit from the disarray among opposition parties in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two main opposition parties in Kebbi, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), are undergoing a series of internal crises.
The PDP’s major leaders, especially its 2023 gubernatorial candidate, Maj.-Gen. Aminu Bande (Rtd), recently dumped the party and joined the ADC, while the latter currently has two factions claiming ownership of the party in the state.
Speaking on the opposition crisis, the State Publicity Secretary of APC in Kebbi, Issa Abubakar-Asalafi, in an exclusive interview, explained that many opposition figures would soon abandon their political parties and join the ruling party.
Asalafi said, “As you can see, we are following the development because politics is a game of numbers, and you have to get your house in order before you can dethrone a ruling party.
“So, for us in the ruling party, we are happy with the way opposition parties are in disarray in Kebbi. It’s glaring that they cannot put their houses in order.
“Even when they were in their former party, they were not united. The same people who were not happy in their previous political party now find themselves under a new roof, and these are people with different political ambitions.
“So, just give them like two months, all of them will leave their parties and will seek to join the APC. I am very sure of this.”
Speaking on the possibility of the APC sustaining its winning streak in 2027 at national and state levels, Abubakar-Asalafi said their party remained optimistic, assuring that it would win the elections with more than 70 per cent.
“We are very optimistic that we are going to consolidate the progress made so far by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Gov. Nasir Idris.
“With this development of crises in all the opposition parties, we have confidence that the elections will be won in our favour by the grace of God with over 70 per cent,” he assured.
NAN reports that all three senators from Kebbi who won their elections on the platform of the PDP, as well as members of the House of Representatives, have joined the ruling party in the state.
