The Oyo State Chairman, League of Veteran Journalists, Mr Banji Ogundele, has highlighted the happy moods that defined the life of veteran broadcaster, Chief Yemi Ogunyemi, who passed away on Wednesday.
Ogunyemi was the Baale of Oluyole in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
According to Ogundele, the deceased had a way of spinning laughter wherever he was.
Speaking with NAN, he described the deceased as an incredible journalist with an aura of making people happy and lively everywhere he went.
“He was a very devoted journalist, lighting everywhere he was.
“He smiled a lot and made people smile; I will miss his vibes; if you are sad, he will make you happy,” Ogundele said.
According to the chairman, Ogunyemi was a cultural icon with his style of dressing always making him easily recognised as a full Baale.
“He was a fantastic person; we have missed a lot in journalism.
“His programmes like ‘So daa be’ and ‘E n ba laya’, which made a lot of people rush home to watch on the television, are not there any longer,” Ogundele said.
The veteran advised younger journalists to be as creative as the older ones who created good content that drew people to listen to the radio and view the channel.
“A good audience will create a good advert,” he said.
NAN recalls that Ogunyemi was the Baale of Oluyole Estate in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
Ogunyemi, a promoter of the Yoruba culture, was, until his death, a member of the Ibadan South-West Local Government Traditional Council and Vice-President, Association of Baales in Ibadanland.
He worked with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) for many years.
