$36k nights, rolex gifts and private jets: Davido gives a peek into his world

It sounds more than the story of a concert.

Very importantly too, it reads like good news for the arts community and promoters of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts.

That is the tale that Nigerian Afrobeats star, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido, is staging a three-night concert residency at the ediffice formely called the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, in December.

Has the regeneration it recently witnessed now made it a toast for A-List acts?

Will the concert open the door for other stakeholders, including the arts community who used to enjoy a major stake there?

These are part of the questions that time will answer as Davido’s fans await the show.

He made the announcement on his verified Instagram page, @davido, on Friday, announcing “Oriadè: The Residency” for between Dec. 17 and Dec. 19.

In the caption accompanying the announcement, the singer wrote: “LAGOS!!! We bringing it HOME! 15 years of madness and there’s nowhere I’d rather be.

“The world has shown us so much love,” he said in the Instagram post.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the announcement featured videos of clips of Davido performing before large audiences, alongside footage of Lagos and the National Theatre.

The residency will see the singer perform at the National Theatre for three consecutive nights, marking his 15-year journey in music.
