In a coordinated effort to curb illicit drug activities, the Ogun State Security Network, known as Amotekun Corps, has arrested Emmanuel Obi, a suspect believed to be at the center of a local drug distribution ring.
According to a statement by CSP Shodeke Sholanke, Director of Intelligence and Investigation, the arrest was made in the bustling Ayetoro market area of Yewa North following actionable intelligence provided by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Obi was allegedly working with a commercial driver, known as Alausa, who is now in NDLEA custody.
The arrest underscores growing cooperation between local and federal security outfits in tackling the drug trade and enhancing safety in public spaces across Ogun State.
“Alausa had been tasked with transporting a substantial quantity of suspected hard drugs from Abeokuta to Ayetoro, with an estimated value running into millions of Naira.
“On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the NDLEA in the state intercepted an 18-seater Mazda bus, along the Abeokuta/Ayetoro road.
“During interrogation of the driver, it was revealed that Obi was the owner of the seized items.
“The information received led to the swift action of Amotekun operatives after intelligence was equally received from the State NDLEA, which led to the arrest of Obi.
” The Ogun Amotekun expresses its commitment to further collaborate with operatives of NDLEA in tackling drug abuse and trafficking in and around Ogun.
“Our operation underscored the agency’s ongoing efforts to rid society of criminal elements involved in the drug trade.
“The command further emphasised the importance of community involvement in providing information to combat the menace of drug abuse and trafficking.
“As investigations progress, authorities have called on the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities that could threaten the well-being of the community,”he said.
He said Emmanuel has since been transferred to the Ogun command of NDLEA for further investigations and prosecution.
