Merih Demiral, the centre back of the Turkey team, astonishingly helped his country to advance to the quarter-finals on Tuesday night.
His two goals secured the ticket for them as they eliminated hard-fighting Austria.
The 26 years old defender, who plays for Al halil in Saudi Arabia, scored the opening goal in the 57th second of the game.
The goal was from a corner kick that landed a blow on Austria’s face.
In response, Austria did everything they could at the first half but to no avail.
At the beginning of the second half, Turkey pressed high, looking for a second goal and they were awarded a corner in the 59 minutes which was headed in by Demiral.
Seven minutes later, Austria bounced back with a goal scored by Gregoritsch from a corner by Marcel Sabitzer.
They further pushed hard to get the second but the opponents’ defence stood strong like the wall of Jericho.
Their keeper ultimately saved them from the doom bore by a fierce, last-minute header by an Austrian player.
Turkey then advanced to the quarte- finals to face Netherlands.
