Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has reacted to the death of a pupil flogged to death by a teacher in a school in the state.
Young Henry Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, a pupil of Landmark International School Mgbakwu, died in a hospital following grievous bodily injury inflicted on him by one of the teachers, Mrs Faith Nwoye.
The school has also been declared as illegal.
According to the governor, justice will be done in the matter.
Speaking through Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, he described the incident as unfortunate.
According to the Commissioner, the governor has demanded a full-scale investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of the boy.
The matter was handed over to the police on Monday, May 20, 2024, after interrogation of the suspect and the proprietor of the School. The school was discovered to be among those operating illegally in the State.
The commissioner, who had earlier declared criminal activities of anyone operating a school in the state without recognition, insisted that the Ministry of Education recognized schools in line with prescribed due processes.
“Every child is of the State and Governor Soludo has demanded that the law takes its full course in the Henry Chukwuemeka Okonkwo’s case,” the Commissioner restated.
