Kaduna State Government has reiterated its commitment towards the protection of women and children with focus on immunization.
The Acting Executive Secretary of Kaduna state primary healthcare board, Hamza Ikara, disclosed this in an interview with journalists on Sunday in Kaduna.
He said the state governor is concerned about child protection in the state with focus on immunization programme by ensuring that all children get vaccinated for better growth and development.
“And it is a primary focus to ensure that all children from the age of one to five years receive the total number of vaccines they should take for the protection of their lives.
“Also pregnant women will have special care between their antenatal period to delivery,” he said.
He explained that the gesture is to ensure that each pregnant woman should have all the necessary protection related to routine vaccines and drugs that will motivate her to have safe delivery.
According to him, the board has been partnering with UNICEF in the area of child protection and vaccines while UNICEF’s special trainings of primary healthcare staff, have provided better service delivery to women and children across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
He discloses that in the area of nutrition, UNICEF has been supporting the board with prepared nutritional meals “ready-to-use therapeutic food” (RUTF), which is a life-saving essential supply item that treats severe wasting (dangerously thin) in children under five years age.
