Many people are again in tears in Benue State as gunmen have hit some communities killing 13 people.
Reports from the state said they were herdsmen but the police said they had yet to know the attackers’ identities.
The state has been witnessing renewed attacks and mayhem in recent times, with Governor Samuel Ortom, a few days ago, accusing President Muhammadu Buhari of watching those he called Fulani herdsman to continue to unleash violence on the state.
He said this was because of the state government’s decision to stop open grazing.
The Presidency had, however, countered him, saying he was wrongly accusing Buhari.
The latest assault was said to have happened when the suspected herdsmen invaded Tse-Amgbem community close to Aondoana in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to reports, the attackers burnt down the houses in the community in the early Monday morning attack, April 3 and also left many wounded.
They quoted the Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Area, Grace Igbabon as confirming the casualty figure in an interview on Channels Television on Monday May 3. Survivors of the attack have reportedly been displaced and are now taking refuge in Aondoana town.
Police Spokesperson in the state, DSP Sewuese Anene was said to have also confirmed the attack but said details concerning those who perpetrated the attacks, number of casualties, those wounded and the extend of the damage at the community is still unknown.
