The first heavy snowfall across Austria’s Alpine regions caused power outages in around 9,800 homes on Wednesday.
The wet and heavy snow toppled trees that fell on power lines, electricity providers in the provinces Tyrol, Salzburg, Styria and Carinthia reported.
Several roads and one train line were closed because they were blocked by trees, or because of avalanche risk.
The onset of winter weather spelled a vacation day for students in Carinthia, where 11 schools remained closed on Wednesday.
