Driver of one of the BRT buses in Lagos recently caused a crisis in Ikorodu when he knocked down a woman and took to his heels.
The victim, Mrs. Bilikisu Adedoyin, is currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Ikorodu.
According to a Punch report, some passengers who recalled what happened noted that apart from the fact that the driver was suspected to be drunk while driving, his attention was divided as he had his headphone on, enjoying music.
They added that he rebuffed all efforts to caution him.
They said that as soon as the accident happened, however, he jumped on an okada (commercial motorcycle) and ran away.
But the police in Lagos said the driver of the bus with number plate EKY 160 XR did not run away as he went to report himself to them.
The report quoted the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, as saying, “The woman involved in that accident with the BRT bus is recuperating in the hospital. However, the driver did not run away, he ran to the police station and reported himself. He is currently in detention and investigation is ongoing.”
