The name has its roots in Hausa language. ‘okoko aiko’ means one bottle of palm oil. Oral tradition revealed that the area was given to Hausa migrants by the Aworis of Iba town, about 400 years ago. The population of migrants grew and eventually one Suleman Jato, a Hausa native, was installed as the Baale. He later married a Yoruba woman from Awori extraction. The present ruler of Okokomaiko, Isola, affirmed that Suleman Jato was his grandfather.
