– Manchester United will meet record six-time winners Sevilla in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

– Should they advance, Erik ten Hag’s side will face either Juventus – whose squad includes former United midfielder Paul Pogba – or Arsenal’s conquerors Sporting Lisbon in the semi-finals.

– In the other last-eight ties, Roma face Feyenoord and Bayer Leverkusen meet Union Saint-Gilloise.

– It will be the first meeting between the sides since the 1964-65 Cup Winners’ Cup, which West Ham went on to win.

– Lech Poznan take on Fiorentina and Basel play Nice in the other ties.

– The first legs of of both competitions take place on 13 April, with the return games on 20 April.

– The semi-finals are scheduled to be played on 11 and 18 May.

– Sevilla are recent serial winners of the Europa League, having won all of their six titles since 2006 and they defeated the Red Devils in the semi-finals on their way to winning it in 2020.

– Their squad includes Brazil defender Alex Telles, who is on loan from United.

– “Sevilla are very experienced in the Europa League and have won it so many times,” said United boss Ten Hag.

– “We have to be aware of it.”

– Ten Hag’s side, who won last month’s Carabao Cup, are also still in the FA Cup and host Fulham in the quarter-finals of that competition on Sunday (16:30 GMT).

– Jarrod Bowen became West Ham’s leading European goalscorer as David Moyes’ side easily beat Cypriot side AEK Larnaca to reach the last eight of the Europa Conference League.

– Bowen struck twice in as many minutes at the beginning of the second half to take his overall tally to eight across two European campaigns.

– The victory equalled West Ham’s biggest in Europe as, for the second season running, they reached the quarter-finals of a European competition.

– However, this success was far removed from the memorable and nail-biting extra-time triumph over Sevilla in the last-16 of last season’s Europa League.

– Two down from the first-leg, Larnaca were outclassed at the London Stadium as the Hammers strolled to victory.

– The Cypriots gifted the opening goal to Gianluca Scamacca and then had Gustavo Ledes sent off just before the break for a poor challenge on Pablo Fornals that was upgraded from a yellow card to red following a video assistant referee intervention.

– Bowen took the home side further clear. His second in particular was impressive as he looped a header from Aaron Creswell’s cross over the Larnaca keeper and into the corner.

– West Ham’s victory was rounded off by 18-year-old local boy Divin Mubama, who has been with the club since he was eight and scored his first senior goal on only his third first-team appearance.

– West Ham took a big step towards the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League with a comfortable first-leg victory at AEK Larnaca.

– Michail Antonio scored two first-half goals for David Moyes’ side, who have now won all nine of their matches in the competition this term.

– It was no more than the Hammers deserved with Antonio almost adding a third after the break when he drove a low effort against the right-hand post.

– The Cypriot hosts caused the visitors some early problems but West Ham grew in confidence and took the lead when unmarked Antonio expertly headed Said Benrahma’s left-wing delivery into the right corner.

– With the Premier League side searching for a second, Pablo Fornals drove wide of the left post moments before Antonio doubled the lead when he collected a pass on the edge of the area and superbly curled an effort around his marker into the top-right corner.

– Villarreal are on the verge of qualifying for the UEFA Conference League playoffs after another win on Thursday.

– Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze played his part as Villarreal continued their winning run in the 2022/23 UEFA Europa Conference League group stages on Thursday night.

– Unai Emery’s men secured a slim 1-0 victory over their hosts Austria Wien at the Generali Arena in Vienna, Austria as they remained top of Group C with 12 points.

– Senegalese forward Nicholas Jackson was the hero of the night, with the second-half substitute grabbing the game’s only goal three minutes from full-time.

– Villarreal visited bottom-placed Austria Wien in search of a victory that would put them one foot into the playoffs of the Europa Conference League this season.

– Emery fielded a 3-5-2 formation with Arnaut Danjuma and Giovanni Lo Celso leading the line, Chukwueze on the wing and veteran goalkeeper Pepe Reina in goal for the Yellow Submarines.

– Despite being the away side, Villarreal dominated the ball possession, grabbing 63% of the ball but they failed to create quality chances from their dominance.

– Austria Wien had more scoring chances (five shots on target) than their Spanish visitors (two shots on target) despite seeing less of the ball.

– A double change in the 56th minute saw Jose Luis Morales and Nicholas Jackson come on for Francis Coquelin and Danjuma respectively as Villarreal went in search of the game’s opener.

– The goal did not come until the 87th minute when both substitutes, Morales and Jackson, combined to give the Yellow Submarines the lead.

– It was Jackson’s first goal for Villarreal in the Europa Conference League this season, with the Villarreal Academy graduate bagging his second goal of the season since he scored against Real Valladolid on Matchday 1.

– Villarreal will return to action on Monday, October 17 when they host 8th-placed Osasuna at the Estadio de la Ceramica in their Matchday 9 fixture of the 2022/23 Spanish La Liga.

– Unai Emery’s Villarreal may not be tearing things up in La Liga, but the Basque manager can always call on a European performance to ease the pressure.

– The Yellow Submarine have been in fine form in the Europa Conference League and it took them less than 20 minutes to open the scoring against Austria Vienna. A work of art put together after some nifty dribbling from Samuel Chukwueze, followed by a superb touch and finish from Alex Baena at the back post.

– That set the victory in motion and before half time, Francis Coquelin won the ball back and after a pass from Baena, Arnaut Danjuma got reacquainted with goalscoring for the first time this season.

– The second half was a simple affair for Villarreal to manage, however Jose Luis Morales took it upon himself to entertain the Ciutat de Valencia, as he has done so many times previously for Levante.

– He came on at half-time for Nicolas Jackson and treated the support to a 12-minute hat-trick as they game came to close. That included a delightful lob of the Vienna goalkeeper, as he got in behind the Austrian defence.

– Villarreal maintain their perfect record in the Conference League looks like something of a formality for them now. No doubt Villarreal fans will be asking, quality of the opposition aside, why this attacking flair is not available at the weekend.

– Manchester City’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund will hold as planned despite Premier League games being called off. 

– The status of next week’s European games involving English sides had been uncertain after English clubs cancelled their domestic fixtures this weekend as a mark of respect following the death of Her Majesty The Queen on Thursday.

– There had also been concerns of further disruptions to the football calendar as a result of a lack of available police due to the Queen’s funeral.

– The Premier League winners are due to take on the German side at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening in the European competition’s second round of group fixtures.

– It’s understood the game will still go ahead, though there has been no official confirmation from organisers UEFA.

– If there are no policing issues, fixtures are expected to be played.

– Liverpool, Rangers and Chelsea are also due to play at home in the competition next week.

– Manchester United have confirmed on their official website that their trip to FC Sheriff will go ahead as planned next Thursday.

– A statement read: ‘Following discussions with the relevant governing bodies and in line with guidance issued by the UK Government, we can confirm our UEFA Europa League fixture against FC Sheriff will take place as scheduled on Thursday evening in Moldova.

– ‘Match arrangements will remain the same for fans who are traveling to support the team in Chisinau.’

– Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Europa League clash against PSV Eindhoven at the Emirates on Thursday looks set to go ahead as planned after the Gunners received clearance from the Met Police to host the game.

– According to a report from the Evening Standard, the Met Police have informed the club that they are currently comfortable with the game taking place on Thursday evening.

– The decision will be officially announced in the coming days, to allow supporters from both clubs to make arrangements.

– Mikel Arteta’s side began their Europa League campaign with a win last night against Swiss Super League champions FC Zurich.

– Goals from summer signing Marquinhos, and Eddie Nketiah secured three points for the Gunners in St Gallen.

– After the death of the Queen was announced in the half-time interval, both teams met in the centre circle prior to the restart to observe a minute’s silence to commemorate the late monarch.

– Jose Mourinho has never needed much encouragement to boast about his coaching accomplishments, but he has found a new way to brag about his trophy haul: by getting a tattoo.

– With the sleeve of his white T-shirt rolled back, Mourino showed off the artwork that now adorns his right upper arm — the Champions League cup sandwiched between the Europa League and Europa Conference League trophies.

– Mourinho guided AS Roma to the Europa Conference League title last season to become the first manager to win all three of the current European prizes.

– Roma won their first major European trophy by beating Feyenoord in the inaugural Europa Conference League final in Tirana.

– Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge of the Italians ended with a trophy after Nicolo Zaniolo chested down Gianluca Mancini’s lofted pass before beating goalkeeper Justin Bijlow with a clever flick.

– Mourinho, who has won the Champions League, Europa League and the Uefa Cup, is the first manager to win all of Uefa’s major European trophies.

– But this win continued the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager’s perfect record in European finals, having now overseen five wins in five finals.

– Feyenoord, whose campaign started in the qualifying rounds back in July, were denied an equaliser when Rui Patricio tipped Tyrell Malacia’s attempt on to the bar soon after Mancini inadvertently hit his own post while trying to make a clearance.

– There were incredible scenes at the final whistle as Mourinho was mobbed by his backroom staff and Roma’s players celebrated in front of their travelling support in Albania.

– Chris Smalling was part of the United side that defeated Ajax in Stockholm five years ago and the 32-year-old defender produced a man-of-the-match performance to help secure Roma a first trophy since 2008.

– Smalling made a couple of crucial blocks in the early stages of the second half when Feyenoord were at their best, while he did a fine job keeping Cyriel Dessers- the competition’s leading scorer – quiet.

– At the other end, Tammy Abraham thought he was clean through before being impeded by Marcos Senesi, who escaped without a booking.

– Abraham has enjoyed a successful first season in Italy since joining from Chelsea for £34m last August.

– He was unable to add to his season’s tally of 27 goals but he finishes the campaign with a trophy and a place back in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

– Barcelona ended their season with a home defeat against Villarreal as they finished on their lowest La Liga points total in 14 years.

– Villarreal, this season’s Champions League semi-finalists, booked a Europa Conference League spot with their victory in the Nou Camp.

– Alfonso Pedraza ran onto Dani Parejo’s pass to give them the lead.

– Moi Gomez made it 2-0 after a terrible pass across his own box by Barcelona’s on-loan winger Adama Traore.

– Barca finish second on 73 points, 13 behind champions Real Madrid, and without a trophy.

– Results picked up after Xavi replaced Ronald Koeman as manager but they were too far behind to compete.

– The last time they got fewer points was in 2007-08, when they finished third on 67 points.

– Elsewhere, fourth-placed Sevilla won 1-0 against Athletic Bilbao, who miss out on European football next season.

– Atletico Madrid, who finished third, won 2-1 at sixth-placed Real Sociedad.

– Ricardo Pereira scored a late winner as Leicester City produced a superb comeback to beat PSV Eindhoven in the Europa Conference League and reach the club’s first European semi-final.

– After a goalless first leg at King Power Stadium, Eran Zahavi pounced on a mistake by Youri Tielemans to open the scoring but James Maddison levelled with 13 minutes remaining.

– The Foxes midfielder slotted into the top corner from Ayoze Perez’s clever cutback before Pereira fired the winner in the 88th minute to seal a memorable win.

– They will face the winners of Roma versus Bodo/Glimt, who lead 2-1 following the first leg.

– Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers had urged his side to make history and reach the club’s first European semi-final, but for 77 minutes it looked like they would pass up the opportunity against a PSV outfit who were more adventurous than in the first leg.

– It has been an underwhelming season for Rodgers but his changes at Philips Stadion inspired a stirring comeback.

– Half-time replacement Patson Daka had already slotted a glorious chance wide before fellow substitute Perez picked out Maddison and the midfielder lashed home.

– Then, with two minutes to go, substitute Ademola Lookman found Daka and the forward’s effort was palmed into the path of right-back Pereira, who made no mistake.
