The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has commiserated with the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the government and people of Sokoto State over the attack on Goronyo Market.

The market was recently attacked by alleged bandits killing innocent people and destroying property at the Goronyo Central Market .

This is contained in a letter of commiseration signed by CAN’s General Secretary,Joseph Daramola, on Saturday in Abuja.

According to CAN , “We are also calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to ask the National Assembly to amend the Constitution with a view to allowing the State Police as it is being done in other climes.

They said that they were shocked, pained and disappointed with the reported attacks and the loss of many lives despite all the efforts being made by the government to stop the criminal elements in the midst of Nigerians.

CAN condemned the operations of criminals and tasked security agencies to rise up to the occasion before was too late.

The association said, “We join the Sultan and Gov. Aminu Tambuwal in appealing to the Federal Government to deploy more troops to the state to stop criminals and their criminalities.”

It recalled that while the state was still counting the losses of lives and property at the Goronyo Market, criminals also attacked the Kaduna-Abuja train line.

“May God console and comfort all the bereaved occasioned by those attacks and may God grant accelerated healing to those who are still recuperating in the hospitals.

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, on his 65th birthday, slated for Aug. 24, 2021.

The president, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, on Friday in Abuja, congratulated the spiritual leader for providing guidance and wisdom for the Muslim community for close to 15 years.

President Buhari joined the Sultanate of Sokoto, family members and religious leaders in the country, to celebrate with the 20th Sultan of Sokoto.

The president noted that the Sultan, who is also the President-General of Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Chairman of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), had consistently taken the side of fairness and justice, particularly on national issues.

He also acknowledged the fatherly role of the Sultan in speaking up and providing for the poor, underprivileged and interfacing with other religious leaders as Co-Chair of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) to promote harmony, oneness and peaceful co-existence.

President Buhari affirmed that the Sultan had utilised his wealth of experience as a former military officer, with strong diplomatic credentials, working in many parts of the world, to serve the country.

He prayed for his wellbeing, longer life and more wisdom to keep serving the country and humanity.

All Progressives Congress National Leader, Sen. Bola Tinubu, has commiserated with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, over the death of his elder brother, Alhaji Buhari Abubakar III.

Tinubu, in a condolence message on Sunday in Lagos, prayed for repose of the soul of the late Abubakar.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the deceased, until his death, the was the district head of Sokoto North.

Tinubu described the late Abubakar as an excellent community leader and a devoted Muslim, who impacted his people positively.

“He contributed immensely towards the propagation of Islam in his domain and beyond.

“I express my deepest condolences to His Eminence, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, over the passing of his elder brother, Alhaji Buhari Abubakar III.

“May Almighty Allah console and comfort him and the entire Abubakar family over this loss,” Tinubu said.

The former governor of Lagos also prayed that may Almighty Allah give the wife, children and all those he left behind the strength to bear the loss.

“May He guide, guard and protect them through this difficult moment.

“May Almighty Allah also grant repose of the soul of Alhaji Abubakar. May He admit him to Aljanna Firdaus,” Tinubu said.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Sunday, turbaned no fewer than 20 dignitaries, including three sons of the 18th Sultan of Sokoto, late Ibrahim Dasuki, with traditional titles of the caliphate.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the turbaning ceremony took place at the Sultan’s palace, in the ancient city of Sokoto and seat of the caliphate.

The event was a unique one which, offered its most famous traditional honour and hospitality to the dignitaries, making it the first of its kind in the history of the caliphate.

In his address at the ceremony, the Sultan charged the new title holders to remain committed to the course of strengthening the administrative roles and responsibilities of the caliphate, to humanity.

Abubakar said that the event was historic as it retraced the footprints of the late Othman Dan Fodiyo’s purposeful legacies.

“Your turbanning is a great honor and opportunity to serve the society and the entire Sokoto caliphate. Because of this, I expect all of you to shoulder the responsibilities with dedication and commitment.

“It is our humble belief that you would assist in achieving a favourable and rewarding Ramadan, in peace and for the benefit of Muslims, while keeping people closer to the caliphate.

“Moreover, people should continue to pray for the turbaned, to enable them deliver the responsibilities shouldered on all of them, “he said.

Abubakar further called on Nigerians to sustain their prayers for the leaders, to enable them address all the security challenges bedeviling some parts of the country.

NAN reports that prominent among the 20 persons turbanned were, three sons of the 18th Sultan of Sokoto, the late Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki.

They included a former lawmaker in the National Assembly and serving Sokoto State Commissioner of Finance, Abdussamad Dasuki turbanned as Santuraki of Sokoto, Abubakar Dasuki as Danmaje and Alhaji Khadir Dasuki as Durbi.

Other dignitaries turbaned were: Chairman, Sokoto state Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Alhaji Muhtari Maigona, as Zanna, former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, as Jekada.

Also included were; former Minister of Transportation, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman, as Dan’amar, Prof. Ahmad Mora, as Kayayen Sarkin Musulmi, Alhaji Musa Bashar, as Mayana.

A former NNPC Director, Alhaji Faruk Ahmad, was turbanned as Danmadami, and the Director-General, National Automotive Design and Development Council, (NADDC) Alhaji Jelani Aliyu. (NAN)

The leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association has said that it also knows that herding is counterproductive to cattle farmers and herdsmen.

It said, in the real sense, it neither paid the herdsmen nor the cows whose potential and output were being diminished by the system.

The National Secretariat of MACBAN, Baba Ngelzarma, made this known in Abuja on Friday, when the association met with the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa’ad, over the crises occasioned by herding.

He urged the Federal Government to address social support programmes of pastoralist with a view to educate and empower them.

He also emphasised the needs for government to initiate programmes that would take idle pastoralist out of criminality and engage them to learn other skills in addition to cattle rearing.

“Even the cattle rearing are they getting money? Their cattle are not competing with the ones you have in other parts of the world that weigh 700 to 800 kilograms per cow.

“The milk output is also not competing with the other ones in the world where one single cow is given an output 50 litres per day.

“We still hold the outdated species of the cow that are weighing not more than 100 to 120 kilograms and given out an output of milk that is not more than three to five litres per day.

“So, a lots need to be done by government, religious leaders, traditional rulers and pastoralist associations,” he said.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, he stated that MCBAN was a peace loving association, adding that it was never a criminals association “because we have Sultan as our Chairman Board of Trustees.”

Ngelzarma enjoined members of the association in the South West to remain peaceful, stop farm destruction, stop night grazing, respect the people’s culture and tradition.

He also admonished them to recognise the laid down rules and regulations and avoid criminality.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his condolence over the death of Alhaji Abdulkadir Jeli Abubakar, Dikkon Sokoto, the Commissioner of Home Affairs in Sokoto State.

The deceased was the younger brother of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.

Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, in a statement issued in Abuja, said Buhari conveyed his feelings in a condolence message to the Sultan on Friday.

The president said: “I have received with great shock and profound sadness the death of your younger brother, Alhaji Jeli Abubakar.

”As he answered the call of his creator, may God forgive his shortcomings and reward his good deeds with aljanna. May Allah comfort you over this incalculable loss of your dear brother.”

Buhari also condoled with the family of the deceased as well as Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State for losing someone dear to all of them.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) on Wednesday congratulated Sa‘ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, as he turned 64.

The group’s Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, in a statement, described the Sultan as “uncommon and totally detribalised.

“We join millions of Nigerians to celebrate a unique leader, as he turns 64.

“He (Sultan) accommodates all, regardless of ethnicity or creed. He thinks more of the whole country than of Sokoto Sultanate. Instead of leading sedentary existence or exhibiting armchair leadership, the Sultan has been highly mobile.

“More fascinating is the manner he closed the gap between the adherents of Christianity and Islam.

“His level of religious tolerance is nulli secundus. His cool-headedness in the face of provocation is legend.

“Sultan Abubakar’s sense of humour is numero uno. He can collect candy from a hungry lion. Yet, behind the calm façade is a tactician and a fearless strategist primus inter pareil.

“We therefore charge Nigerian Muslims to unite, remain loyal to the central leadership and to shun ethnicity.”

He reminded Muslims in the Southern part of the country that Muslims are one nation and recognised no geographical boundaries.

He added that “there is no difference between a Northern and a Southern Muslim. The Glorious Qur’an says ‘Verily indeed this brotherhood of yours is a single brotherhood and I am your Lord.

“Therefore, worship Me (Qur’an 21:92). Southern Muslims should also note that the hadith forbids al-Jannah for any Muslim who dies while promoting ethnicity above the religion of Islam.”

He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the sultan long life, good health, peace, tranquility and progress.

Born on Aug. 24, 1956, Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III is the 20th Sultan of Sokoto.
As Sultan of Sokoto, he is considered the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims.

The Northern Governors Forum has commended the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, for the peace initiatives and efforts to address illiteracy in Nigeria’s Northern region.

The Chairman of the forum and Governor of Plateau, Simon Lalong made the commendation in a congratulatory message on the occasion of the Sultan’s 64th birthday.

The message was issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Makut Macham on Monday in Jos.

He commended the Sultan for promoting peace, unity and development in the Northern Region and the entire nation.

Lalong said thag the traditional ruler had also contributed immensely to addressing insecurity, poverty, illiteracy and ending the Quaranic education system (Almajiri) practiced in the region.

He said that the Almajiri system had operated in the region in spite of several attempts to end it, until recently when governors of the region took bold steps to return the students to their families and also take care of their education and welfare.

“You have remained a great advocate of good governance, peaceful coexistence and accountable leadership which explains your consistent support and wise counsel particularly to governors of the Northern region and the country at large.

” We are proud of your advocacy and support, towards tackling the challenges of the region as you remain a source of inspiration to the Northern Governors Forum,” he said.

Lalong prayed to God to grant the sultan good health, more wisdom and divine protection, while urging him to continue to avail the country his counsel on critical issues that affect the well being of the people.

The Sultan of Sokoto, the spiritual leader of Muslims in Nigeria, was born on Aug. 24, 1946.
