As Nollywood loses another veteran actor, Emmanuel France, death has robbed Nigeria of over 10 actors in 2024 alone.

Stakeholders are very disturbed over this only a few of the deceased were of the ripe age.

Only weeks after popular comedian, Mr Ibu, was laid to rest, the news of France’s death broke on Tuesday.

Filmmaker Femi Ogedengbe confirmed it on Monday through his Instagram page, sharing his sorrow and reminiscing about the fond memories they shared.

He wrote: “Rest in peace to one of Nollywood’s legends, Uncle Emmanuel France. One of the actors I took to Tanzania in 2006. We shot three movies together: Cross My Sin, She Is My Sister, and The Director. R.I.P.”

Among those who had earlier departed were Yoruba caustic-tongued comedian, Siri Quadri, and actor Junior Pope.

In the Yoruba film industry, proverbs-wielding Deji Aderemi, aka Olofa Ina; and incantation baron, Ganiyu Oyeyemi, popularly called Ogunjinmi, also joined their ancestors.

Olofa Ina

Veteran Yoruba actor Deji Aderemi, popularly known as Olofa Ina, died on Thursday, January 4.

Ethel Ekpe

Veteran actress, Ethel Ekpe, who adorned the Nigerian entertainment screen for years, died on Wednesday, February 7, in Lagos State.

Ekpe is well known for playing the role of ‘Segi’ on the Nigerian Television Authority sitcom, ‘Basi and Company’. She died after a long battle with cancer.

Yoruba Nollywood actor, Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji, popularly known as Sisi Quadri died on March 1.

He was 44.

Oyebamiji celebrated his 44th birthday on December 25, 2023.

Mr. Ibu

A day after Sisi Quadri’s demise, the news of the passing of comedic actor, John Okafor, popular as Mr Ibu broke out.

The actor, renowned for his comedic roles, died at the age of 62. It plunged fans and colleagues into mourning.

His contribution to Nollywood’s quintessential comedic figures is destined to endure as an individual. He wields large influence over the nation’s cultural and entertainment space.

Amaechi Muonagor

Three weeks after losing one of its comic actors to the pang of death, the Nigerian movie industry lost yet another veteran actor, Amaechi Muonagor, to the cold hands of death.

This came a few days after a viral video in which he solicited financial assistance from Nigerians to enable him to travel abroad for a kidney transplant.

Aderounmu Adejumoke

Nollywood actress, Adejumoke Oreoluwa Aderounmu, popularly known for her role as ‘Esther’ in popular TV series Jenifa’s Diary, died on Sunday, March 7.

Aderounmu started her professional acting career in the movie “Arugba,” produced by Tunde Kelani in 2008, starring alongside Bukky Wright, Bukola Awoyemi, and Segun Adefila.

Junior Pope

Days after the death of Adejumoke, the news of the passing of Junior Pope Odonwodo popularly called, Jnr Pope, broke out.

Zulu Adigwu

Veteran actor Zulu Adigwu died on Tuesday, April 23.

His death was announced on Facebook by popular film producer and singer, Mike Nliam.

Veteran Yoruba actor, Ganiyu Oyeyemi, popularly known as Ogunjimi passed away on April 26, 2024.

His death was made known by actor Kunle Afod in an Instagram post.

Sule Suebebe

Veteran Nollywood actor Dayo Adewunmi, popularly known by his stage name Sule Suebebe, passed away on June 12, 2024.

The news of Adewunmi’s death was announced by Pastor Ademola Amusan, widely known as Agbala Gabriel.

“As an actor you gave me courage. You are the first director that invited me to a movie location and paid me, not just that alone, my feeding and personal accommodation was settled without stress. How will I write my stories in this industry and slide your name EGBON????Ko possible. Through you I met a lot and I learnt so much from you. Good night, Boss man  Yusuf Olorungbede These are the words of an emerging actor, Oladimeji Peter, as he laments the death of another Nollywood actor, Yusuf Olorungbede.

The remains of Nollywood actor Tolani Oyebamiji aka Sisi Quadri who died on Friday, March 1, has been buried in his hometown in Agbowo area of Iwo.

Sisi died after a brief illness at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso .

Mr Marufudeen Lawal, Chairman Odun chapter of Theater Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria ( TAMPAN), said the deceased would be missed by his colleagues in the entertainment industry because of his endowed talents.

Lawal said the actor’s body was brought from Ogbomoso  on Friday  before his internment and  prayers offered at an open field close to his house.

He said the late nollywood actor played major roles in the industry that would not make his lovers and followers to easily forget about him .

” His death was shocking to us because we never knew he will passed away now . He did not inform us about his sickness , we  would have assisted him  .

” We expressed our condolences to his family and loved ones and the entire state ,” Lawal said

According to him,  plans were on to partner with states governors in order to ensure that their colleagues benefitted from their Health insurance schemes.

He , therefore , called on Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun to support TAMPAN members by ensuring they all enrolled on the state’s Health Insurance Schemes which would be of great benefit to them.

Meanwhile, Gov. Ademola Adeleke, has described the late actor as a “great talent” who brought laughter and heartwarming moments to audiences.

Adeleke in a statement said the actor’s comedic genius and the memories he created on screen will continue to resonate for years to come.

He also offered his condolences to the actor’s family while wishing them strength during “this difficult time”.

“Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji (aka Sisi Quadri) was a delight to watch in movies. He was a great talent that illuminate homes and impart valuable messages”.

As more people mourn Yoruba comedian, Sisi Quadri, one of his brothers, Oyebamiji, has revealed the ailments he treated in his last week on earth.

According to him, Sisi Quadri battled hiccup in the last day, although he had been in hospital for one or two other ailments before.

In an interview with Yoruba.com, he noted that the actor, who specialised in lampooning others in Yoruba figurative expressions, was initially said to have fallen down at a location.

He said he was taken to a hospital where he was treated for malaria and ulcer.

He noted that Sisi Quadri got well and returned home, only to develop hiccup, which the Yoruba call esuke.

The deceased’s brother further stated that he was again taken to a hospital which, however, referred him to the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, as the complication got protracted.

“It wasn’t that he was critically ill,” he said. “He even transferred money into our account that day, for treatment. On our way, when some policemen saw us and asked him to give them money, he even joked with them that they should go and collect money from Sanwo-Olu,” he added.

Sisi Quadri could, however, not survive the ailment as news of his death broke out on Friday.

The Nigerian entertainment industry has lost a rising star as Sisi Quadri is dead.

The actor, who was popular for thoroughly abusing other characters, using Yoruba figurative expressions, especially similes, was said to have passed on at the age of 44.

Details of the passage were not yet out as of the time of publishing this story but a Nollywood actor, Abiola, Bayo announced that the man with the full name Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji. has breathed his last.

He wrote on her verified Instagram handle, “You will be greatly missed, Sisi Quadri. May your soul rest in perfect peace”.

Sisi Quadri , who was a trained fashion designer, was born in Iwo, Osun State.

Also confirming the death,the National President, Theatre Arts And Motion Pictures Practitioners Association Of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr Latin,  with a display of the deceased’s picture wrote: “Hmmmmmm! May God grant him eternal rest.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sisi Quadri dominated the online comedy skit and the Yoruba movie industry.

His major breakthrough in the movie industry was when he played the role of an insultive personality in the Yoruba epic movie, “Seniyan Seranko”.

Late Sisi Quadri captivated his audience with his outspoken personality and ability to rain insults on his opponent in movies without pausing.
