Govt speaks on report that ritualists turned a pupil into yams in Ibadan

The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Mr Abiodun Abdulramah, has reacted to a report that a pupil was turned it yams by a ritualist in Ibadan.

According to him, there is no iota of truth in it.
made this clarification, while addressing students, parents and guardians of the school when he visited the school.

The commissioner had visited the school on Friday afternoon, while on fact-finding mission, following a report in the social media that such incident happened in the school

Phenomenal reports that the social media were awashed with the news of how a suspected ritualist (nameswitheld) turned two students of the school to tubers of yam with unused pampers.

It was reported that the suspect was caught by a local security guard around Bode Wasinmi-Bashorun axis, at a location closed to the school.

This, however, created fear in the minds of residents, especially the parents and guardians, whose children and wards attend the school.

Abdulramah said findings from the school management showed that none of the school students was reported missing.

The commissioner, however, called for calm.

He assured them that the security operatives would dig deeper into the incident to unravel details of what really happened.

The commissioner admonished the general public to remain patient, saying that the safety of every resident in the state was a priority for the Gov. Seyi Makinde-led administration

Pastor, 25 others arrested with human skull in C/River

Police nab suspected murderer of vigilante member in Delta

The Police Command in Cross River has arrested the Pastor of United Evangelical Church, Michael Bassey, 45, for unlawful possession of human skull.

It also apprehended 25 other suspects for various offences committed in the state.

Briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Calabar, Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Sikiru Akande, said that the pastor was arrested upon a complaint from a concern citizen on threat to life.

Akande said that the suspect was arrested at No. 56 Uwanse by Asuquo Ekpo Street in Calabar South.

“The suspect was arrested with one human skull tied with the complainant’s picture and carved human image with red clothes.

“Investigation is still ongoing and the suspect will be arraigned in court,” he said.

The CP also paraded one Christian Edem-Eyo, 34, for allegedly killing and beheading one Uduak Okpo, 65, and buried her head and the body separately on June 6.

The Commissioner also said that the suspect would soon be charged to court accordingly.

Bassey, however, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that he was not into any diabolical act.

According to him, he has been conducting healing services for his congregation members before his arrest.

“I don’t know anything about this human skull. I am innocent of the charges against me,” he maintained.

On his part, the murder suspect, Edem-Eyo, told NAN that he killed Okpo because she belonged to the spiritual world.

“I killed Uduak Okpo because she belonged to the marine world. She was terrorising me spiritually in the compound,” he said.

The CP said that the Command’s “Operation Restore Peace” in the state had yielded result through the arrest of criminals disturbing the peace of the people.

He said that the command was liaising with traditional rulers, youth groups, stakeholders and community dwellers on ways to restore peace and order in the state.

39-year-old man arrested with dismembered female body parts

Vigilante arrested for killing police officer in Osun

The Osun Police Command has arrested one Kabiru Oyedun, 39, for being in possession of a dismembered body parts of a yet-to be identified woman for money rituals.

Mr Olawale Olokode, the Osun Police Commissioner, parading the suspect with the body parts of the victim on Friday in Osogbo, said the suspect was arrested on Thursday, at about 9pm in his house, in Apomu Town, Isokan Local Government Area of the state.

Olokode said the suspect was arrested with the dismembered body parts kept in his house following credible information from the public.

He said the suspect, in collaboration with one of his friends called Akin, who is still at large, killed the victim at the suspect’s house, where they removed vital parts of her body.

According to CP, Akin, now at large, was the one who brought the victim to the suspect’s house, informing him that the girl was his girlfriend whom he wanted to kill for money ritual.

Olokode said that the victim was invited from Ibadan by his boyfriend to Apomu, where she was killed and her body parts removed for money rituals.

Olokode said the Divisional Police Officer at Apomu led police officers to recover the body parts of the victim, adding that the police are on the trail of the victim’s boyfriend (Akin).

He, however, called on parents to always monitor their children and wards to know the kind of people they associate with.

The suspect, speaking with Journalists, confessed to the crime, saying that it was his friend (Akin) that strangled and killed the girl, while having sex with her in his room, adding that he only held the girl’s legs while she struggled for life.

The suspect added that his friend (Akin) told him that he wanted to use the girl for money ritual with a promise that he will pay N50,000 for any body part of the victim, if he assisted him to kill the lady.

He said his friend, a herbalist in Ikoyi Town, later took away the girl’s heart after dismembering the body.

He said that it was his neighbour, who suspected that something wrong was going on in his apartment, that alerted the police.

In another development, the CP dispelled the rumour that suspected herdsmen attacked and abducted students of School of health technology, Ilesha, in the early hours of Friday.

Olokode described the information being circulated as fake news, adding that residents of Ilesha panicked when they were misinformed that they were going to be attacked.

He said that the shooting in the air by hunters and vigilantes in the area, to alert the residents, heightened the tension and panic.

Olokode said that no attack or abduction took place in Ilesha or in the school.

The police chief, however, called on residents of the town to go about their lawful businesses, warning that people should do away with unnecessary protests that can lead to loss of lives and wanton destruction of property.

Man kills roommate, sells body parts for rituals

Woman who posed as doctor charged with murder in Germany

A 34-year-old man, Okpegboro Avwerosuo, has allegedly killed his roommate in Sagbama Town, Sagbama Local Government Area (SALGA) of Bayelsa.

Okpegboro was alleged to have sold the deceased’s vital organs to a pastor in Port Harcourt, who is currently at large, for ritual purposes.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the story.

Butswat said that the suspect, who hails from Ugheli North Local Government Area of Delta, was being detained at the state Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

He said that the name of the victim had yet to be known.

According to a neighbour who pleaded anonymity, the suspect invited the deceased, his friend, to Sagbama to join the motorcycle riding business, assuring him that the business is flourishing in the town.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the boom in the transport mode business is because of patronage by students as the Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro College of Education (IJBCOE) is located the town.

NAN gathered that the deceased had spent barely two weeks in the town when Okpegboro struck him on the skull with a pestle in the night and killed him.

The neighbor further explained that “after killing him, he dismembered the body, preserved the vital organs and put the other parts in separate sacks which he disposed off in the early hours of the following day.’’

He said that while disposing the sacks, another neighbour who saw him and suspected his movement confronted him and demand to know the whereabouts of his roommate.

“The suspect claimed that the deceased has travelled back to Delta State for an urgent business. Not satisfied with his response, the neighbour forced his way into the room and saw blood stains everywhere.

“The neighbour held him down and alerted the local vigilante which eventually called the police in to arrest the suspect.

“Upon interrogation before he was handed over to the police, the suspect confessed that he had sold the vital organs of his friend to a pastor in Port Harcourt, who is currently at large for ritual purposes,’’ he explained.

The President of SALGA Federated Youth Council Worldwide, Mr Preye Casey, in a statement, condemned the killing of the young man.

Casey urged the youth of Sagbama to be on alert to checkmate the activities of non-indigenes in the town as security tension continued to rise across the country.

“Just yesterday, the decomposing body of a young man was discovered in the bush with several parts of the body already butchered into pieces and placed in sack bags.

“The Nigeria Police, Sagbama Division, was alerted and it led to the arrest of a young man in Sagbama Federated Community, suspected to have been the perpetrator of the ungodly act.’’

He condemned the act and called on Sagbama youths to be vigilant as they went about their normal activities, especially in the wake of the rising insecurity level in the country.

The president, therefore, appealed to the security agencies to find out those behind the murder of the young man.

My husband wants to use me for money ritual- policewoman

A policewoman, Sgt. Wuraola Babalola, has petitioned a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, seeking the dissolution of her marriage of 14 years to Oladimeji, over alleged attempt to use her for money ritual.

According to the petitioner, alleged that Oladimeji, uses different kinds of charms whenever he wants to sleep with her.

She alleged that Oladimeji, has also turned her into his punching bag.

”At any slightest opportunity, he stripes me prevents my relatives from seeing me.

”He puts puts charms in my private part whenever he wants to sleep with me. He also surrounds my plate of food with charms, saying he uses it to protect me.

“He has also buries different kinds of charms in the house chanting my name. My first child saw him do that.

“I have evidence of all the charms and how he maltreats me on my cell phone,” she alleged.

Oladimeji was not in court to answer to the allegations.

The bailiff informed the court that he had on several occasions served hearing notices on Oladimeji, who lives in Oluyole Estate in Ibadan.

After listening to the testimony of the petitioner, Chief Ademola Odunade, the President of the court, dissolved the marriage, on grounds of threat to life.

He granted custody of the three children to the petitioner and ordered the respondent to pay N15,000 as the monthly feeding allowance.

The arbitrator ordered the clerk of the court to ensure that copy of the judgment is sent to Oladimeji.
