A 38-year-old man, Ogunyemi Temitope, has been arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State over the alleged fraudulent conversion of N4.8 million meant for the processing of United States travel documents.

Temitope, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a one-count charge of fraud.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant allegedly obtained N4.8 million from the complainant, Saka Yusuf, under the pretext of procuring travel documents to the United States for him and two members of his family.

According to the prosecution, the defendant allegedly converted the money to personal use instead of fulfilling the agreement.

Adaraloye said the offence contravenes Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

Magistrate O.O. Fadairo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide evidence of employment and tax payment to the Ogun State Government.

The case was adjourned until July 18 for further hearing.

An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Tuesday sentenced a 39-year old man, Ijioma Kalu to 15 months imprisonment for breaking into a house to steal items worth N2 million.

The Magistrate, Mr O. O. Okiki, sentenced Kalu to prison without option of fine, after pleading guilty to burglary, conspiracy and theft.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the convict and others still at large, committed the offences on June 23 at 8:35 p.m. at Alawode Street, Lafenwa, Itele-Awori area, Ota.

Adaraloye said the convict broke into the house of the complainant, Grace Eduvie and stole household items valued at N2 million entrusted into the hand of one Patience Atunu.

He said the offences contravened the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun, 2006.
