NSCDC repels bandits’ attack on FG’s grain silo in Katsina

Agro Rangers of the NSCDC have repelled an attack by suspected bandits on Federal Government’s grain silo in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Mr Buhari Hamisu, spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC),  said in a statement in Katsina on Sunday that the attack occurred on April 6, at about 1am.

According to him, the bandits wanted to destroy the silo and and abduct its Manager, Mr Lawal Shitu-Yar’adua.

The Agro Rangers responded swiftly, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel for over two hours, Hamisu said.

“The valiant operatives overpowered the criminals, who scaled the rear fence of the reserve and escaped with serious injuries.

“The silo was not damaged, nor did the criminals succeed in their nefarious act,” the NSCDC spokesman added.

Hamisu said the NSCDC had detailed more personnel to the location and increased the firepower of the operatives to prevent a recurrence of such attack.

According to him, the silo is used to store grains being distributed to people of Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto states.

“The Command remains dedicated towards promoting safety and security for the good people of the state and Nigeria as a whole, as well as providing adequate protection of critical national assets and infrastructure.

NSCDC promises adequate security for Ogun farmers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun Command, has assured farmers in the state of adequate security ahead of the wet season farming.

Mr David Ojelabi, the Commandant of NSCDC in Ogun, gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta on Saturday.

Ojelabi said that the command has trained officers who are well equipped in carrying out the task of providing security to farmers.

“NSCDC will ensure that the people of Ogun go about their farming business without any fear of attack from any quarter,” he said.

He assured farmers that their farmland and crops would be provided with adequate security by the corps through its agro-rangers unit.

Ojelabi said the provision of security for farmers would lead to increase in agricultural activities and reduce food shortage in the country.

“NSCDC priority is to ensure adequate security of farmers and all agricultural investments.

“The priority is also to promote peaceful co-existence between farmers and herders through Alternative Dispute Resolution.(ADR).

“This peaceful co-existence would encourage farmers to do their job without fear of been attacked,” he said.

NSCDC, ICPC resolve to partner in fight against corruption

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have resolved to partner in the fight against corruption and other social vices.
The resolution for the partnership was muted when Mr Oluyemi Ibiloye,  the Commandant, NSCDC, Ondo State Command,  paid a courtesy visit to the state Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Mr Kayode Kupolati, on Wednesday.
A statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Akure by the command’s spokesperson, DSC Aidamenbor Daniel, quotes
Ibiloye as saying  there was need for the two organisations to work together in the fight against corruption.
The commandant said that the agencies need to rid the state of criminality and all other forms of social vices.
The NSCDC boss also sought for collaboration with the commission in building capacity of its personnel in the areas of forensic auditing to investigate fraud and corruption to enhance their operational capabilities.
“We are poised to always provide security support and any other support needed in the fight against corruption,” Ibiloye said.
In his remarks, Kupolati assured the NSCDC commandant of the readiness of ICPC to collaborate with the command in capacity building and intelligence sharing.
“And one of the issues we are facing is that citizens are not reporting corruption cases as they ought to the commission,” Kupolati said.

NSCDC acquires drones, communication gadgets to enhance security surveillance

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has received the donation of three drones and 100 highly profiled self-configured walkie-talkies for better security surveillance.

A statement by the Corps’ Spokesperson, CSC Babawale Afolabi, on Monday in Abuja, said that the gadgets were donated by Equipping the Needy Initiative (ETNI), an international organisation.

NSCDC’s Commandant General, Ahmed Audi while receiving the devices, appreciated ETNI for its support.

Audi said that ETNI’s donation demonstrated that security was a collaborative responsibility, both locally and internationally.

“Our partners in their previous visit promised partnership and true to their words, they have come to fulfil that promise today; it shows that they just don’t do the talk but they work the talk,” Audi said.

He assured the team that the gadgets would be deployed to its communication centres for proper and timely information dissemination and surveillance.

“All that has been donated is in trust. So, we will make sure the communication centre, as promised, will serve as a command and control centre where we will harness our national operations.

“The Corps is also in charge of liberated areas and provides safety and security to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps,” he said.

ETNI’s Chief Executive Officer,  Dr Benedict Aliku, who visited the Corps headquarters alongside some foreign security experts,said that the donation was a testament to their commitment to supporting the NSCDC.

Aliku reiterated that the organization would explore other areas for more collaboration in line with the NSCDC Act.

“One of such initiative is to leverage on the NSCDC Act 2003 as amended, to embark on IDP shelter projects for the needy in five states: Kaduna, Benue, Kogi, and Nasarawa.

“Also, there will be the construction of a communication Command Center that will be domiciled at the Corps HQ to coordinate surveillance across the nation,” he said.

NSCDC elevates Jigawa spokesperson, 13 others to various ranks

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has approved the promotion of the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), CSC Adamu Shehu, and 13 other senior officers to the ranks of Deputy Commandant of Corps (DCC) and Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC).

The PRO announced this in a statement on Saturday in Dutse.

“Following the recent release of promotion list CDCFIB, 14 officers of NSCDC Jigawa State Command were on Friday decorated with new ranks of Deputy Commandants and Assistant Commandants of Corps at the Zonal Command Headquarters, Zone ‘N’ Kano.

“Nine officers were elevated from the rank of Assistant Commandants of Corps (ACC) to Deputy Commandants of Corps (DCC) and six officers from the rank of Chief Superintendents of Corps (CSC) to Assistant Commandants of Corps (ACC).

“The Head of Administration, three Area Commanders were among those decorated to the rank of DCC, while the Command”s Public Relations Officer is among the six other officers decorated to the rank of ACC,” the PRO said.

Shehu said the Zonal Commander, ACG (Prof.) Iliya Sarki, was assisted in decorating the newly promoted officers by the Jigawa Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Danjuma Muhammed, and his Kano state counterpart, Muhammad Lawal.

He explained that while addressing officers, the zonal commander charged them to reciprocate the gesture by working hard in ensuring the protection of lives and property of the citizenry as well as protection of critical national assets and infrastructure.

“New ranks means new commitment, dedication and added responsibility, as such you must strive hard to ensure you give your best in uplifting the corps to a greater height.

”And I believe your promotion is as a result of your dedication, resilience as well as commitment to duty,” he quoted the zonal commander.

The PRO added that Sarki also commended the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr Ahmed Audi, for keeping up with his promise of enhancing personnel welfare.

NSCDC decorates 746 promoted officers in Osun

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun State Command, has decorated 746 promoted officers in the command.

In a statement by the state NSCDC Spokesperson, ASC Adeleke Kehinde, on Saturday, the decoration ceremony was done on Friday for : “Six Deputy Commandants of Corps, 33 Assistant Commandants of Corps,

“36 Chief Superintendents of Corps, 120 Superintendents of Corps, 127 Deputy Superintendents of Corps, 295 Assistantant Superintendents of Corps (I) and 129 Assistant Suprintendent of corps (II).”

Adeleke said the Osun State Commandant of NSCDC, Agboola Sunday, decorated the officers at the state command’s headquarters in Osogbo.

She said the commandant described promotion as an award of excellence, dedication, hardwork, loyalty and discipline.

“He, therefore, appealed to the newly promoted officers to see their promotion as another step in their bright career.

“He lauded the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Audi, for approving the promotion of 21, 385 for NSCDC,

“He said they have made an indelible mark on the Corps members which would be difficult for anyone to surpass.” Adeleke stated

She said the newly promoted officers were urged to justify their promotion and charged to imbibe selflessness in the discharge of their duties.

She said Sunday, however, encouraged those who did not benefit in the promotion exercise not to be deterred, admonishing them to continue to work hard and be hopeful that their own promotion would arrive in due course

Kwara community donates office for NSCDC

The Akerebiata Community in Ilorin has donated a Divisional Office for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to help in fighting insecurity in the state.

Malam Tunde Jamogada, the President of Balogun Gambari Ward Development Association, said the building was to appreciate and support the corps in its tireless dedication to the safety and security of the community.

Jamogada noted that officers and men of the division has consistently demonstrated a high level of competency and hard work in handling various security challenges in the community.

He said that the construction of the building was to provide a more conducive working environment for officers and men of the division.

The Balogun Agba of Ilorin Emirate Council, Alhaji Aliyu Adebayo, also praised NSCDC for maintaining law and order, as well as creating a secured environment for the community.

Earlier, the Kwara Commandant of the corps, Mr Umar Mohammed, said that the donation was to bolster security measures and address prevailing challenges in the state.

The commandant described the office as a landmark achievement and appreciated the Balogun Gambari Ward Development Association for their unwavering commitment in ensuring the timely completion of the project.

He emphasised the pivotal role the new office would play in combating emerging security issues in the state.

Mohammed reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commandant officially inaugurated structure to serve as the Akerebiata Divisional Headquarters.

Gunmen kill 4 NSCDC in Rivers

Four officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are feared dead following an ambush by gunmen, suspected to be sea pirates, in Bakana community in Rivers.

A resident of the community who spoke on condition of anonymity told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Saturday that the incident happened in the early hours of Friday.

The resident said the officers were shot dead on Bakana River in Degema Local Government Area by sea pirates.

“Two of the victims who are Muslims have already been buried according to Islamic rites,” the eyewitness added.

Reacting, the Spokesman of NSCDC in Rivers, DSC Olufemi Ayodele, who did not admit or deny the killing, said the command would issue a statement as more facts unfold.

NSCDC deploys undercover agents to schools

Dr Ahmed Audi,the Commandant General (CG) of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC), has ordered the immediate deployment of undercover agents to schools and host communities to enhance security in schools nationwide.

The CG gave the order on Friday in Kaduna at the closing  ceremony of a five- day capacity building on Safe School Response.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 200 NSCDC personnel and other stakeholders from the seven states in the North West attended the five-day programme.

The capacity building was organised by the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC).

Audi said that the Corps would partner with the Ministry of Education in each state and Local Education Authorities for the successful implementation of the directive.

According to him, the capacity building is to strengthen the resilience of relevant stakeholders including vigilante groups, retired security personnel, host communities and serving personnel of NSCDC.

He explained that the programme was to imbue in them all strategies and knowledge on how to provide protection for schools and host communities from violence and attacks.

Audi who was represented by ACG Training and Capacity Building,  David Abi, said that the NSSRCC was a critical component of the implementation strategy of the National Plan on Safe Schools.

He said that the plan was developed by government to mobilise synergy among security agencies and relevant stakeholders towards schools’ protection.

The CG acknowledged the rising cases of attacks and violence on schools in Nigeria and its attendant negative impacts, including increasing the rate of out of school children in the country.

“The strategic plan is based on the whole-of-society approach with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps as the lead agency.

“The Corps is also hosting the headquarters of the Centre, saddled with the responsibility of coordinating safety and security response for schools and host communities in collaboration with all security agencies and other relevant stakeholders.

“The Centre is the first of its kind in Africa; available records indicate that no other country has this kind of facility with the sole responsibility of providing safety and security prevention and protection measures for schools and host communities.”

He CG said in view of the recurring attacks and violence in schools in the country, the task ahead of the centre was enormous.

“It requires effective synergy and collaboration from all stakeholders including the Federal, State and Local Governments.

“It is also pertinent to state that the Standard Operating Procedure of the Centre provides for creation of state coordinating centres and local government response centres for effective and seamless operation.

“It is for this singular fact the I respectfully present on behalf of the centre, the request for the kind consideration for allocation of an existing structure within each of the state capitals in the North-West to serve as the safe school coordination centres,” he said.

The CG told the participants that the task ahead of them was enormous.

“Be reminded that aside being ambassadors of the centre, you are equally the foot soldiers who are in direct contact with the members of schools and host communities,” he said.

He charged them to ensure that the knowledge gained from this training was put into effective practice in the discharge of their duties.“Furthermoreuties.“Furthermore, members of the vigilante groups and private guards company must be ready to collaborate and work in harmony with security agencies to facilitate effective protection of our schools.”

Also, the General Officer Commanding (GOC)1 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Valentine Okoro, said that the national plan for safe schools was a programme developed by government to mobilise synergy among security agencies.

The GOC, represented by Brig.-Gen. Henry Yanet, Commander 51 Signals, said already, the Chief of Army Staff(COAS),Lt-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, had directed enjoined army units and formation to work with other security agencies in protecting the civil populace.

In his remarks, Kaduna State Governor, Sen. Uba Sani, reiterated the state government’s commitment to partnering with all security agencies to enhance public safety.

NSCDC arrests 45 suspected criminals in Kano

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has arrested 45 suspected criminals in Kano State.
The Corps Public Relations Officer in the state, DSC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday in Kano.
He said 41 of the suspects were arrested on Oct. 5, at about 2a.m by the corps armed squad on night patrol in Kano metropolis.
He explained that the remaining four suspects were arrested in a club house.
“Four suspected vandals were also arrested at Riga fada and Dan Maliki in Kumbotso Local Government area by personnel of Anti Vandalism Unit and local vigilante groups.
He alleged that the suspects were notorious armored cable vandals, who were in the habit of stealing electric transformer attachments and terrorising Riga fada neighbourhood.
“The suspects vandalised N1.5 million worth of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) equipments,” Idris-Abdullahi said.
According to him, the suspects are undergoing profiling for possible legal action.
He reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment in protecting and safeguarding all critical national assets and infrastructure in the state
