Buhari salutes South- South leader, Celestial Tawo at 80

President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated Sir Celestine Tawo as he turns 80 years.
Mr Femi Adesina, the President’s spokesman in a statement on Monday, quoted the president as commending the many decades put into national service and development by the respected South-South leader.
Tawo had variously served as Commissioner in Cross River, Board Director of Federal Mortgage Bank, community leader, and Knight of the Order of Saint John International (KSJ), among others.
President Buhari lauded the contributions of Tawo to the peace that currently subsists in the Niger Delta region.
He, therefore, urged him to continue deploying his influence and wisdom to the sustainability of amity and concord in the area, and the country at large.
President Buhari also congratulated the entire Tawo family, their friends and associates, praying for longer life and good health for the celebrant, as he continues to serve God and humanity.

Adebayo William is a pride of Nigeria – Buhari

President a Muhmmadu Buhari has decribed renowned writer, essayist and scholar, Professor Adebayo William, as a pride of Nigeria.

Buhari noted this in his salute to William as he clocks 7on September 9.

President Muhammadu Buhari has rejoiced with globally recognised essayist, academic and author, Prof. Adebayo Williams, as he turned 70, Sept. 9, 2021.

The President in a statement by his spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, on Wednesday in Abuja, saluted the almost 50 years of scholarship, university teaching, and contributions to public discourse that Prof. Williams had tucked under his belt.

He extolled the professor for being a source of inspiration to the younger generation, and a pride to the country.

The President noted that the multiple award-winning writer, after years of teaching at the then University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) took his intellectual prowess to Europe and America for many decades.

According to him, Williams has used his God-given endowments for the good of humanity round the globe.

While rejoicing with the Williams family, the academia, friends and acquaintances of the celebrated writer and teacher, the President wished the professor longer life, good health and greater contribution to scholarship and sharing of knowledge.

He encouraged the newspaper columnist not to relent in addressing issues of governance very crucial to Nigeria and Africa

Buhari arrives Lagos

President Muhammadu Buhari, has arrived in Lagos on a one-day working visit to the state.
Reports have it that Buhari and his entourage landed at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos at 10.32 a.m on Wednesday amid tight security.

The president arrived aboard a Nigerian Air Force Boeing aircraft with registration number 5N-FGT and was welcomed with a dance by cultural troupe and a Presidential Guard of Honour.

Those who received him include Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State and Deputy Governor of Edo, Mr Phillip Shuaibu.

Others were Lagos State Governor-Elect, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Mr Obafemi Hamzat as well as top security chiefs.

NAN reports that Buhari is visiting Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria, to inaugurate some projects executed by the Lagos State Government.

The projects are – Institute of Maternal and Child Health (Ayinke House), Lagos Theatre, Oshodi Transport Interchange and International Airport Road as well as 820 Mass Transit buses.

Atiku wins 6 out of 8 LGs declared in Plateau

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is currently leading in the Saturday’s presidential election in Plateau.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the election took place in all the 17 local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

Abubakar, in the results of the eight LGAs so far announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is currently winning in six.

The results indicated that Abubakar had so far secured a total of 248, 210 votes while President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC scored a total of 138, 268 votes.

The results depict that Abubakar won in Bokkos, Jos South, Mikang, Kanke, Pankshin and Langtang South LGAs, Buhari won in Qua’anpan and Jos East LGAs, respectively. (NAN)
