Man U vs Arsenal as Premier League resumes June 17

Premier League season in England will restart on June 17, according to a media report on Thursday.

Howevet, a spokesman for the Premier League, which stopped play in March, declined to comment as the meeting of 20 club officials was ongoing.

The season will get under way on the Wednesday date with Aston Villa versus Sheffield United and Manchester City versus Arsenal, which are both games in hand.

A full fixture list would then be played on the weekend of June 19 to June 21, the report said.

All games will be behind closed doors.

The Premier League was suspended on March 13 due to the coronavirus pandemic, but teams returned to small group training last week.

On Wednesday, clubs agreed to move to Phase Two of the comeback with players working in larger groups and closer to each other.

The next step would be full contact training and preparation for the return to action.

Liverpool, searching for their first league title in 30 years, lead the standings by 25 points.

Aguero’s goal null and void as Man U floors City 2-0

Manchester United completed their first home and away Premier League double over Manchester City since the Alex Ferguson era with a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The win moves United up to fifth and leaves Pep Guardiola’s second-placed City trailing leaders Liverpool by 25 points.

United’s opening goal was straight off the training ground with Bruno Fernandes surprising City’s defence with a sharply-taken chipped free-kick over the top to Anthony Martial whose volley sneaked under the arm of the diving Ederson.

City had a Sergio Aguero effort ruled out for offside after the break but without the injured Kevin De Bruyne, the champions lacked their trademark midfield dominance.

United substitute Scott McTominay made sure of the points in stoppage time after a dreadful throw-out from Ederson straight to the Scotland midfielder who superbly drove the ball into the unguarded net from over 25 metres out.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United are now unbeaten in 10 games in all competitions. The last time United completed the league double over City was in the 2009/10 season.

inhale misses first goal after dribbling goalkeeper

Odeon Ighalo showed dribbling capacity before Watford’s goalkeeper on Sunday but this did to translate into a goal.
His shot was deflected by a defender, thus making him lose another opportunity to record the first goal for Manchester United.
The team, however, finished wonderfully, thrashing the opponents 3-0.
Bruno Fernandes opened his goalscoring account at Manchester United on Sunday as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side climbed to fifth place in the Premier League table with a 3-0 win against lowly Watford.

As AFP reports. United have struggled for consistency all season but the victory at Old Trafford lifts them to 41 points, just three behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

Midfielder Fernandes, bought by Solskjaer last month to add creativity and drive to United’s midfield, scored from the penalty spot shortly before half-time and Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood also found the net.

While United are looking upwards, Nigel Pearson’s Watford are in deep trouble, just one place off the bottom of the table after taking just two points from their past five games.

As it stands, fifth place could be enough to earn a Champions League spot because second-placed Manchester City have been banned from Europe’s elite competition for two seasons, pending an appeal.

Chelsea twice play into VAR’s throat as Man U pip them 2-0

Headed goals from Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire earned Manchester United the win on Monday.

As Reuters note, he win put them back in the hunt for a top four 2019/2020 English Premier League (EPL) finish.

In a high tempo, if often scrappy game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United side made the most of their chances.

But Chelsea, whose form at home has been suspect all season, squandered a string of opportunities.

A fine glancing header from Anthony Martial just before half-time from an Aaron Wan-Bissaka cross put the visitors ahead.

Juan Mata speaks on Pogba’s possible exit from Man U

Man United midfielder, Juan Mata, has called on Paul Pgba to stay and help bring trophies back to Old Trafford.

Pogba revealed last month that he was ready for a “new challenge” after three years at United.

The France midfielder has been linked with a return to former club Juventus and Real Madrid and his agent said earlier this month that he wanted to leave the club.

According to Mata, Pogba is a fantastic midfielder, and a good influence for everyone at the club.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Mata said: “We all know Paul and he is a fantastic midfielder, and a very good guy, very positive, and a good influence for everyone.

“I think he is happy and brings everyone together, but I cannot speak for other people – I speak for myself.

“As a team-mate and a friend I would like him to stay and be happy because he is a very good player for us.”

Man United must recruit smart- Solskjaer

Manchester United must take “smart” decisions when signing new players during the close season and nurture their youth players so they can compete in the English Premier League (EPL) next season.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer however said injuries to key players at the wrong moment were a factor in their season and only good recruitment would take care of it.

A brief resurgence under Solskjaer had given Manchester United hope of finishing in the top four.

But they failed to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League after winning only two of their last eight games.

The 20-times league winners dropped down to sixth as a result and cannot finish higher than fifth on the final day.

Solskjaer said player injuries in the final weeks of the season cost Manchester United a top four spot.

“We’ve got to recruit smart, we’ve got to keep blooding the youngsters and we’ll be fine,” Solskjaer said.

“This club is huge and the media and everyone’s criticising us as soon as they’ve got a chance. We got a few injuries and it’s been ups and downs for the last two months, but that’s football.

“It’s not like (playing the video game) Football Manager. You’ve got to deal with different stuff outside of football as well… But I’ve enjoyed it. It’s a great challenge. I haven’t gone to bed one night worrying about what’s going to happen.”

Defender Luke Shaw was named the club’s player of the year but the English left back said he would trade the award for a successful season with the team.

“It’s obviously nice for me but I’d rather win no trophies and have a better season as a team,” Shaw said. “It’s nice but we need to move on and focus on next season and what’s to come.

“I think for me personally it’s probably been my best season since I’ve been here. I would have rather it had been a better season for the team but it wasn’t meant to be.”

Manchester United host relegated Cardiff City on Sunday in their final game of the season.

Man U will bounce back – Tinubu

Samuel David Essoddee

Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has expressed the confidence that Manchester United FC will survive the lull it is experiencing.

When the likes of Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea are performing up to expectation, United has been a shadow of itself almost since the beginning of the season.

Even Arsenal, which used to be the jest bag, has kicked itself into reckoning.

Tinubu, however, on Thursday expressed the hope that Man U has the capacity and heritage that can surprise anyone.

The influential politician, who declared that he was a Man U fan,  said, “Whatever is happening to Man United, no one club can stay up forever. They’ve set a great record already and we would be back on top. I think we are around number seven in the English Premier League table now. It’s too early in the season to write us off, we will never say die.”

According to a report in The PUNCH, Tinubu made this known when he hosted Eagles star and a former Chelsea player, Mikel Obi, in the politician’s Bourdillon home in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The footballer visited him concerning his Mikel Obi Foundation, for which Tinubu promised support.

The APC chief disclosed that although he was a Man U fan, Mikel’s involvement with Chelsea made him have sympathy for the latter too.
