A 56-year-old man, Sunny Obi, who allegedly threatened to kill a husband and wife, was on Thursday brought before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

Obi is standing trial on a charge of threatening violence to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 20, at 5:00 p.m., at No. 12/14, Akwu Iwu St. , Ijegun near Ikotun, a suburb of Lagos.

He said that the defendant threatened to kill a couple, one Mr Emmanuel Igein and his wife, Roseline, over a misunderstanding.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 56(1a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until March 14 for mention.

Also, a 29-year-old man, Johnson Dare, was docked at the same court for allegedly stealing two bicycles valued N130,000 and an engine of a generating set.

Dare is standing trial on a three-count charge of stealing, unlawful possession and a breach of the peace.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him by the police.

The same prosecutor, Insp Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that Dare committed the offences on Feb. 6 and Feb. 23, at No. 48, Okonyi St., Agodo Egbe, Ikotun and at No. 18, Femi Daramola St., Ikotun, a suburb of Lagos, respectively.

According to Aigbokhan, on Feb.6, at Okonyi Street, the defendant stole two bicycles valued N65,000 each (a total of N130,000), belonging to one Insp Fisayo Ademusayo.

The prosecutor said that on another date, Feb. 23, at No. 18, Femi Daramola St, Ikotun, the defendant was seen carrying an engine of a generator suspected to be stolen.

According to him, the defendant could not give an account of how he came in possession of the engine.

Aigbokhan said that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by jumping people’s fences knowing that such act could endanger his life.

He said the offences contravened Sections 168 (d), 287 and 329 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate E. O. Ogunkanmi granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until March 21 for mention.

A 25-year-old woman, Funmilayo Komolafe, who allegedly fraudulently obtained N4 million from her friend and her friend’s father, on Wednesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Komolafe, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences from February 2020 to November 2021, at No. 35, Fakota St., Akowonjo in Egbeda, Lagos.

He said that the defendant fraudulently obtained N4 million from the complainant, Miss Olamide Oyinloye, and her father, Mr Sunday Oyinloye.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant obtained the  sum on the pretext of investing it in a trade known as Investing Mentor.

He said that the defendant knew that the presentation she made to her alleged victims  was false and converted the money to her own use.

Aigbokhan said that the offences contravened Sections 287, 314 (1) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi, granted the woman bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government

He adjourned the case until Jan. 19, 2022 for mention.

Two commercial motorcyclists, Jimoh Lasisi and Femi Ajayi, were on Wednesday brought before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, for allegedly beating up two police officers and damaging two police patrol vans.

Lasisi, 43, and Ajayi, 35, are standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault and breach of public peace.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendants and other commercial motorcyclists at large committed the offences on Nov. 22 and Nov 25, at Jakande Estate Gate at Ejigbo.

He said that the defendants conspired and inflicted injuries on the police officers on duty.

According to the prosecutor, the officers included Insp Alulu Tunde and  Wasiu Isiaka from Ejigbo Police Station.

Aigbokhan said the defendant also damaged two police patrol vans.

He said the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace by obstructing free flow of traffic on a busy road.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 44, 170(3), 250 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government

He adjourned the case until Jan. 19, 2022 for mention.
