A 24-year-old woman, Hafsat Lawal, was on Wednesday docked in a Shari’a court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna for allegedly being in possession of a stolen SIM card.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Shuaibu, told the court that the defendant was arrested following a report by Salamatu Ibrahim, who resides in Tirkaniya area of Kaduna on Sept 23.

He said the nominal complainant’s cell phone was stolen by a suspect who snatched her purse containing the cell phone, N14,000 and a bunch of keys.

He said the defendant was arrested on Sept. 25 in possession of the nominal complainant’s SIM card which she said was given to her by Abba Tailor ,her boyfriend.

The counsel said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 58 and 271 of the Sharia Penal Code.

She pleaded guilty to possession of stolen item but denied conspiracy and theft allegations

The judge, Malam Murtala Nasir, adjourned the matter until Oct. 11 for hearing.
